Buying a Mac

Why are you considering buying a Mac? What do you intend to use this computer for?

first of all once you go mac you never go back....they are so nice an even though they are a little bit more expensive they are so much better and easier to use. Everything makes sense on them. The one thing that you should look for first is that online you can get a refurbished mac for less cost. Other than that is depends on what your individual needs are in a computer.

I got a new macbook (the basic one) and I just fuck around with it.  Super sick computer even though I'm not using it anywere near it's full potential.  My parents bought it for me for graduation, and I put some extra loan/grant money towards it.  I love it.  Macs are so fucking sick.  I'd buy one for sure.

Word, I love my mac more than any PC I've ever had.  Then again I've never had a PC that costs anywhere close to my mac.  I'm happy with it, even if it's not the best bang for buck.  I really like my mac, I don't give a fuck what anyone says, I'm happy.

try out both some, figure out which one you like more. generally speaking macs are simpler. other than that its all opinion.

The trackpad on the new macs is epic, it makes you control the world.  Way sick.

and switching over is so easy....within a week you will be able to navigate through everything like youve had macs your whole life.

i love mac...i've owned a pc for ever had 2 pc desktops...and when i went to college i bought a mac book...i never ever use my desktop at home anymore i always bring my macbook...and i plan on buying a macdesktop...i know the biggest pitch for the mac is its ease of use with media and such but i will buy them from here on out, and i will reccomend them for people who want a new desktop or notebook just for the basics...if you want to game or anything just get bootcamp and install windows on it so you can switch over

If I ever get a laptop, it will be a mac, but I am loving my Windows desktop right now. Over christmas break I might get a 500gb HD and throw vista on that, then put OSX on my 230gb HD.

and a big reason everybody hates on windows pcs, is because they compare a 500 dollar windows laptop against a 1400 dollar MacBook PC...

spend that much on a windows pc, and your gonna get a whole lot more.

For me, macbooks are highly overpriced and cant run many of the programs I use everyday, except by anothing methods id rather not deal with. Im not a fan of their OS so macs arent really for me. For you? If you are using it minimally and prefer mac's ease of use then its all good. Most people who decide they want a mac end up liking them~

i just bought the new macbook yesterday. its my first own mac. absolutely love it. its the way to go. i do lots of editing of pics/video/music. it has all those programs u need pre installed or for free on the internet no need to get a shitty pc. mac all the way baby

That is true, and a lot of people do fail to realize it.
I break it down like this:

1.  love macs and don't know why, they probably have never even used a mac, but it's trendy right?

2.  has a mac, knows how to use it and loves it, prefers the operating system/software over windows

3.  has a pc, thinks it's cool to hate on macs, really knows nothing about computers anyway

4.  has a pc, knows how to use it, prefers the operating style/programs over macs

A lot of it comes down to personal preference and budget.  PCwould probably give you more bang for your buck but I like my mac a lot, more than my old pc's.  However they weren't as expensive as the mac.  I think that if the an average person switched from a pc to a mac and used it for a week they would like it more, again, this is for the average consumer.  Anyone who knows a lot about computers (not me) could theoretically go either way and get just as good of a computer.

K-Rob doesn't like macs because he doesn't use an OS. He just uses command line thingies and hacks everybody lol.

However, K-Rob's level of computer understanding is far greater than that of us mere mortals.

I would go with a mac, they're nice, functional, and not difficult to use after you get used to them.

Besides, why buy a pc when you can get a mac and have both? A little thing called bootcamp will help you out.

If you do get a mac, make sure you remember to google and download the most recent version of KCNScrew, it will make you very, very happy.

Not so much, but in my opinion anyone who uses a new OS within 2 years of its release is a fool...

let's see...Apple creates the iPod, an mp3 player designed for aesthetics, but the audio, which ought to have been the most important thing considering it is a music player, pure shit (to say the least).
a large percentage of the global population of followers and trendsters buys the iPod, Apple makes a shitload of money off of what could quite possibly be the worst music player on the market. then they make more iPods, each one more pleasing to tools than the last.
Apple says to themselves, "look at all this cash we just bagged, let's follow this same formula, but in other aspects of the electronics business."
along comes the new Mac. it's sleek, it's sexy, it's expensive...except that by anyone who knows anything about computers, it could easily be tossed in the "defective" pile. they overheated, the OS resembled Willy Wonka's chocolate factory (likely designed by somebody who had eaten a few too many Wonka bars as well). All in all, cute at first, but a pain in the ass after two weeks.
Yet somehow, Apple makes more money (along with the help of more iPods of course).
Out comes the newer and more improved Mac. the OS is not only cute, but easy to use as well, for the computer-incompetent (the world later finds out that followers and trendsters tend to have no understanding of how to use one of the most basic OS's out there before OSX, Windows). These ones don't melt after two weeks of use. They can no longer be considered defective, only childish. Some people buy them (gamers don't).
Apple releases a few commercials, making fun of PCs because they are too difficult for a toddler to understand. the PC is portayed by a fat man with thick glasses and a cheesy suit, the Mac is portrayed by a dude in normal-people clothes. These commercials make fun of things that don't even exist, like glitches in Windows Vista.
Microsoft helps Apple out (probably expecting something in return, poor fools). They help create most of the software that comes with OSX, some of it which is even advertised in Mac commercials.
Apple thanks Microsoft for all the help by spitting in their face. they make more commercials, attempting to call out Vista on things like how cool it looks, how easy it is to use, or more glitches that don't exist.
Apple continues to profit by making more iPods that concentrate more on cutesy things like touch-screens than the audio quality, which is of course still of no importance to trendy people. They continue to expand their market to include cellphones (and probably tiny mind-control devices that are implanted in the newer iPods to make people buy things like Nintendo Wiis and tight jeans).

but really, the reason i don't like Macs is because they don't accomodate my needs, and i'm also a penny-pincher who would rather pay a fair price for a great product than a high price for an average product. sure, you can install Windows on a Mac and play games, but that doesn't mean the machine was intended for it. and sure, Macs come with some cutesy editing software, but i could DL better software for free if i wanted (and i have).
oh, and i'm afraid of becoming a Wii-playing, Starbucks-going, acoustic guitar-playing, Prius-driving bisexual. not that all Mac users fit that description, though (probably better suited for iPod users)

i got it so i could have a reliable computer and a good computer for video editing.... pretty much i bought a mac so i could have a good computer that will last me a long time. and i dont go to school so i dont need window's programs.

Whatever you do, do not go anywhere near the new Macbooks. Some moron at Apple decided to get rid of the firewire port. That's right, the biggest advantage Macs had on PC just died on the Macbook. How the fuck are you supposed to plug in your Video Camera? USB is slow, and not supported in many cases. Only the Macbook pro still has a firewire port. So if you're wanting an Apple Notebook you'll need to fork out 2-3G's for one that works.

Well I do agree with most of your posts and I can definitely see where you are coming from, for sure. The whole trend shit is fucking gay no doubt. And ya, you probably can DL cool shit but you have to go find it and all that, and most stupid ass consumers will never do that. my previous laptop was six years old (and had last thru college).  it was a fucking trooper.  but it died.  i went to office depot, and damn EVERY laptop with a screen larger than 6 inches (there was a tinyass ACER or something) came with Vista.  no exceptions.  yes, fooled i am.

yeah i'd get a mac if your planning on doing this, i'm on one right now and i think it is one of the best purchases i've ever made. Also windows vista sucked a big cock when i used it and it was hard to operate and navigate, but i think they are working out the kinks.

i'm not saying that graphic designers who use macs are retarded, you can do graphic design on almost any computer, most graphic design programs that i know of have a linux, windows, and mac version. i have nothing against mac users, i have something against the company and the products. they use lies and cutesiness to lure consumers instead of quality, and that bugs me. people falling for it also bugs me. i know that mac users may think they have reasons for owning macs, but really when you can do everything on a mac that you can on a PC, the only reason for buying a mac is aesthetics and user-friendliness (neither of which somebody over the age of 7 should need).

my laptop with 2 2ghz 64bit AMD processors and 2gb of ram runs almost flawlessly with Vista ultimate 64....

vista home premium sucked balls. but the 64bit ultimate runs WAY better.
