WTB: Editing computer HDV

I just got a Sony HDR_FX1 and my hp media center isn't holding up to well editing the hd footage, freezing extremely long rendering times etc. I am looking for a fairly powerful pc or mac, if its a pc it has to be a tower, not a laptop, but for mac I will accept either tower or laptop.
Prefer computer to have:
Quad core processor
64 bit operating system
2gb plus ram
500gb plus hard drive

buddy don't turn to the dark side
macintosh is a monopoly. unless you get hooked up big time, consider building yourself a compy
its easy, its a joy, and you wont regret it, as long as you know how to get cheap software

a MBP with the specs you want is going to cost you a buttload more than you think and probably want to spend.
