I'll probably be heading down to Queenstown this year and ski Cardrona. looks pretty sick to me. Here's a little info on it.

Cardrona
-Super Park
Cardrona's SUPERPARK is 900m of features which create New Zealand's most well known terrain park. Features include a comprehensive rail section, tabletops, hips and the occasional fun box lower down.

A second path has been added to the park, suiting a wider range of riders and matching people to features for improved safety and flow.


The Majestic Rainbow: 16m long by 3m high. The largest of the rail features currently in the park.

-GRAVITY CROSS
The GRAVITY CROSS course is an 800m race track for skiers and boarders made up of banked corners, jumps and rollers.

-Half Pipes
Cardrona's four halfpipes make up the Southern hemisphere's Largest pipe park - snowboarder's paradise! Elite riders train and compete here each year with Cardrona hosting many top-class events, including the 2002 Junior World Snowboard Champs.

Our halfpipes are called the International, the Rookie, the Moro Monster and the Johnny, and all are built to the enlarged Superpipe dimensions. All four pipes are maintained by the Super Pipe Magician.


-Season: June 24th - October 10th

You can't live in any 'resorts'. There is no accomodation up the hills. So you live in a nearby town.
There are 2. Queenstown, or Wanaka. My pick would def be Wanaka. I'll be down there for a couple of months next season. From Wanaka Cardrona is 25min drive (but I wouldn't waste your time with Cardrona). Go to SnowPark for park and pipe (opp Cardrona, 30 min from Wanaka) and then Treble Cone for pow/freeride (35 min from Wanaka). Its a cool town, with a couple of skateparks, and a few 'after hours establishments'.

Queenstown is full of tourists.

I was thinking of going to new zealand also, I was wondering what are the best months for snow down there and if there is actually powder and a real winter or if it is just like summer skiing here.

The winter is pretty much the end of June to early september. The best months for reliable snow are the end of July, August and the start of september.
They do get pow, though one problem is that most storms are accompanied by wind, but that means that when you find a good stash is is super worth it.
Some of my best powder days have been in NZ.

If you have the opportunity to go down there check it out fo sure. Good times.

Yea i would say august but the weather there is so unpredictable. My brother is there now Studying abroad and he said the locals can never tell how much snow they are gonna get until it actually starts snowing. Even then they still dont know. He went like prob 5-6times and hes been from june til now and hes coming back the 19th. August was he his best powder for sure.

yeh fully ok. Im form NZ so listen up. In the Queenstown and Wanaka area there are 7 ski areas and heaps of heli operators. The Queenstown ones are The Remarkables, Coronet Peak and The Invincibles which is a private one that costs like a grand to hire for the day. The Wanaka areas are Treble Cone, Cardrona, Snow Park and Snow Farm. Snow Farm is cross country skiing so you probably dont want to go there. Treble Cone is sick when they get there snow, definitley the freeride choice. Cardrona is pretty mellow, its not a very advanced hill but has three halfpipes and one super pipe. Next year they are all suposed to be super pipes. Now to Snow Park, all i can say is that it is sick, this is a mountain which is all terrain park, tons of rails including c rails and s rails aswell as tech boxes adn big tables. They also have a full size super pipe with true dimensions, compare it to blackcombs super pipe.

As for accom nah you cant stay up on the hills you have to live in either Wanaka or Queenstown which are like only an hours drive form each other. Queenstown is full of tourists but has the better apres ski for sure but my pick is Wanaka which has some pretty choice after skiing entertainment too and everyone there is like so much more down to earth.

nah dawg, we dont have trees on our ski fields in NZ. They are all usually too high up or have been deforested so they can be farmed during the summer.

Snow Park is off the chain

I say don't bother with Aus when New Zealand is so close. There are 5 major resorts in Australia. Snowfall is variable at best and similar to spring conditions over here. Some resorts are stepping up their park offerings, but they are still resitant to jibbing, and the offerings are pretty lame.
Think East Coast but warmer.
