does this happen to anyonee else...

I put the car into drive and it takes a few seconds, sometimes like 10 seconds to actually engage and start driving. Its like the car is in neutral, you can hit the gas and the engine just revs until it finally catches and goes.

anyone?

ive got a 99 forester and theres about a 1 or 2 second delay. idk anything about cars, but10 seconds, you should probably get that checked out

Transmission problem,  you may be low on tranny fluid, or otherwise its dirty and sticking before its up to speed and warmed up.  Is it sluggish when you shift into any other gears?  Other than that i cant think of anything else unless you pull the tranny and look at it.  Your clutch may be about gone.  Best to go in and have it checked if its really hurting your driving.

^ it runs fine but it has always been slow to engage coming out of 'park' I took it to this guy who topped off my tranny fluid, put in a sealing additive, and changed the tranny filter, but it still does it. and I'm debating whether or not to go after the guy who sold it to me bc I'm worried it might be a sign of bigger problems down the road.

It could be anythiing, but if he topped it off and everything then it may either be the clutch or a fucked gear. If its not engaging then you might have a really worn clutch.
