Best ski wax?

i ski on the eastcoast at stratton if anyone needed to know but i do tune my own shit but im not sure which wax is the best...

im not really sure on the temperature thing so for those of you who know the conditions in stratton and similar places (mt snow, bromley, etc) is it better to put a certain temperature wax on for the beggining of the season then change to another for mid season and then late season? or just use an all temp wax? does the temp really make a differecne im pretty confused iv always used all temp but i was jw

also does anyone have any good waxes that they use they would remconend?

honestly unless you are a spandexer racezor you should just go with some all temp, any brand like swix, toyo or even like dakine..

i cant remember the name of the shop in breck but the guy sold me 2 HUGE blocks of their shop wax. best wax ever! ill go look what kind of wax it was when i get home.

all temp is nice...........for base prep.

temp specific wax will make you THAT much faster that its worth buying a bar of each kind. also cold temp(blue) is much harder so for a base layer its good to help harden your base up which helps on rails but A) helping prevent damage by it being harder and B) helps keep your wax on and you gliding fast all day long.

swix/toko its about the same to me. dont bother with crazy expensive pure CF stuff.

it isn't really about what wax you use, it's more about how often you wax and the conditions.


but any major wax brand will do just fine.

yea CH wax is a good wax and it will keep your bases clean if you use it a lot....and you can get them in all the temps and use according to the conditions

this is probably the best wax for being fast but it wears out pretty quick.
the block is probably about $60 and the powder is probably like $100

but for real the best wax depends on the conditions whether or not you should use LF or CH or CF. all depends on the conditions. so learn what wax to use when.

Cera F is an additive, not really a wax. Not only is that shit expensive, but your right that it only lasts like 1 run. Racers use it for acceleration out of the gate, that's it. Temp specific wax is specific to snow temp, not air temp so guessing could be a bitch. CH8 or an all temp is fine for most, just don't make the iron to hot and f up your wax or your ski!

alright - i'm going to tell you all a little something about ski wax. the chemical in ski wax which allows it to repel water, resulting in a faster ride down the mountain for us is made by dupont (or whatever they're called). The same chemical is in everything water resistant including teflon, gortex, carpets, basicly EVERYTHING. now, the problem about this chemical is that it is a proven carsonagyn.

this chemical takes thousands of years to break down, and is very unhealthy.

Ethica (Hillbilly) Ski Wax is a non-carsonagenic option for those who are conscious about the planet (and themselves). check it out, you might like it.

does anybody know if the scraper this comes with is a cheap flimsy one or not. ive been meaning to pick up a nice thick one but this one comes with some wax as well, wondering if i should just buy a seperate scraper

SWIX is the best period. Swix CH, LF 6,7,8 are the best for the east generally. CH is cheaper and LF is a little more money. The order goes CH, LF, HF, HFBD, and then Cera F from cheapest to most expensive, so therefore fast to fastest. There is also special waxes, base prep, glacier wax an so forth. The numbers 4-12 are the temperature rating(the temperature of the snow in the shade.) 4 is the lowest temp, and 12 is the highest. Most waxes come in Hard blocks, spray on, and powder.(I usually do the blocks)

benditto is correct. we've been doing some testing over the last few days in colorado. the PURL natural wax is amazing. faster than flouro swix and homenkol. support homegrown wax companies not the polluting euros.

the best wax money can buy is from racewax.com their ultimate hybrid molly. its like 150 a bar and its tiny, but no one doing park needs to go that fast

purl is really good. all natural, real hard and fast, doesnt ware out fast. there was a scion thing with Sobe one day at my mountain and they were handing samples out like crazy. got a bunch and it works so good. definitely worth looking at

Toko is my favorite but swiz is good too. As far as what type do not woryy about high fluoro, if your skiing park you dont need ot worry about getting as much speed as possible instead think about being consistent, do alot of layers, starting wiht a base prep than a few layers of cold wax and  slowly use higher temp wax, then like two layers of temp wax thta matches the conditions finish off with a  layer or two of a low fluoro. Then your skis wil have consistency throughout the day with plenty of speed.

just so you guys know flourocarbons are horrible for ski bases, if not completely removed from the ski it can dry the ski out to the point where the base can crack. also if anyone has heard of holmenkol i just ordered a kilo of different temp and its supposed to be some of the best wax on the market can't wait to try it expensive stuff tho.

Are you sure about that. Why would racers race on Swix HF, High Flourocarbon? I have never heard of bases cracking from waxing. I am loyal to SWIX and have used it for years, and am satisfied everytime I use it.

Racers (their techs) clean their bases with a hydrocarbon (plain parafin) hot wax & scrape. It takes off old wax & FL wax. Then they use maybe 3 layers/overlays of wax be it HI FL or whatever. So they are good.  Good rule  -every once in a while use just hydocarbon wax. Some Racers wax their skis every week in the summer and have 5 pairs on-hill in the winter.

Wax and FL is mixed and balanced for temperature (etc..) so that the wax works.

Pure FL is NOT wax. Only technicians use it. U CANNOT iron in pure FL. It can burn/smoke, burn your Ptex base. FL is POISON. Don't breath if the iron is smokin. Use a fan. I do NOT know of any bases cracking ever from FL wax. Base burn (ptex turn white -dries out) can happen when racing. Otherwise it's another reason.  

All have good waxes:KUU good big cheap blocks & expensive hi-end synthetic (but last long),  Holmenkol -Beta is a standard & lotta good FL's, Swix-good, TOKO-expensive for small pieces, www.RACEWAX.com good $$$ web buys, Dominator, Maplus, Vola, Raceservice- whatever

More FL does not mean faster. It works well in humid / moist/ warm conditions. Usually does nothing in the real cold & dry. Any wax is better than no wax.

they and i use it on my race skis cause its fast that simple and i'm talking bout pure flourocarbon and to remove you must use base cleaner followed by grinding to remove the layer of base that has flourocarbon in it.  and flourocarbons will continue to dry the base if not removed, to a point where yes the base can crack.
