Well generally my ancestors, being the sexy canadians they are, originated from the the Normandy area of France. Any darn dang way, in America, and no thanks to south park, I always get shit about being French or being canadian, and I always laugh it off because usually the jokes are funny and dont have derogatory intentions. Anywayz, I was in bio today, and I started mentioning how Germany had no successful olympic athletes (except for women's weightlifting) because generally their national specialties ranged from beer to sausage and then back to beer.
Well I just blew the roof off one second generation german girl, who was intently mad at my french ass for a good 20 minutes. Later in the day in philosophy class, we were discussing the ramifications of science being chosen as a "belief system" over religion, and I made a little jokey joke about organized religion, saying that in this day and age if jesus had a second coming he probably would be assassinated by the pope. Laughs all around of course, but then a german exchange student, adamantly catholic, questioned my conclusion. I mentioned that I wouldn't be surprised, he was a nazi youth and all, and that just pushed her right over the edge. She started talking about how her grandfather was a nazi youth, and that naziism was pushed onto her people, basically dodging the whole responsibility for the holocaust thing. (haha jk).
In conclusion, I realized that I should be culturally sensitive about all countries, because even though in North America we love sarcasm and to joke around, some people have enough pride to take things seriously. I also learned that in terms of attractiveness for german people, its completely a hit and miss.
