For those of you who own larger skis (hellbents, pollards, etc) you may have had to purchase a larger brake to make your current binding fit on the ski. So, I get a a pair of Hellbents and a pair of brand new s914's from a couple of years ago for 149.00 to put on them; with regular brakes. I got to look online to see what the going rate is for 130mm brakes, 49.95.... f*** that.  This piece probably cost salomn 8 bucks to make or less and they know that they can pretty much run a monopoly on consumers becasue everybody needs brakes.  So stupid and so frustrating, makes getting a good deal on bindings go right out the window.

Bend or don' use breaks and get leashes, or bright colored shoelaces to tie on your breaks and if a ski pops off they will unravel and you ill be able to find it by dragging your pole.  That's what I'm doing with my Donner Party's this year.

You can actually fully disassemble the Salomon brakes to do a great job of bending them. There are lots of tutorials, do it.

Naaa you aren't out of line for thinking that.  It's absolutely ridiculous that brakes cost 50 bucks.  I thought the same thing.  It's why so many people just bend them.

Call some shops at quiet times and have them rake through their parts bins then hook up the guy with beers and/or cash.

i bent out my 3 pairs of fks brakes last night, one of which were to fit on EP Pros. needless to say, it was a stretch, but definitely possible. using a blowtorch to heat prior to bending, followed by quenching the new bend is the way to go. i can make a thread if anyone is interested.

i'd say go ahead. there are a couple of good threads out there, but adding to the fks brake bending pool is never a bad thing.

dude you are so out of line it isn't even funny... you don't know how hard it is for salomon to produce another set of brakes for skis... people just wont cut them any slack... they have to go down to the R and D room spend 2 seconds to put just a tad more material into their brakes and then try to market and distribute this new product.   salomon has it tough... you guys need to chill out.... just settle down and give them your money, hell give them a tip.

The problem is that Salomon charges dealers close to $30 for the brake so it is hard for dealers to make any money when they do get the brake as they have to pay for the shipping of the brakes to them and the price of shipping them back out. Al's Ski Barn www.untracked.com  includes the correct brake when you buy skis and that also goes for skis such as the EP Pro's, Hell Bents, ARG's and Fatypus. We have designed our own brake for Salomon and Marker (Duke, Jester, Griffon, Baron) that will fit skis up to 140mm in the waist so we can mount wider skis and have the proper brake. They also mount all skis free of charge, and I saw the new jig to mount skis over 130mm so the Tech's do not have to make a paper jig for skis over 125mm.

^It's not your guys' fault at all, it the fact that Salomon charges you $30 for brakes. Thanks for the tips guys. looks like all be bending some brakes.

wow, i remember when i rode the old look p series, i broke the brakes on those a couple of times and i dont remember ever having to buy brakes, my shop would always hook it up, i thought most shops were like that, then i left my little bubble and was very disappointed, i mean my old shop was not a freeski shop by any means, it was a pretty big store kind of a high end outdoor equipment store, with a bike department, ski department, kayaks, fishing camping that stuff, and even with such a large store everyone was still very personable. Shops should take a look at Outdoor Sports Center in CT, nearly 3 hours from "good" skiing and it still one of the friendliest and best shops I have been too.

salomon brakes are really easy to bend, just mount them flat on the ski and bend out and around, works with most solly brakes if you do it carefully or right, or just pull out the rivets on the bottom plate and disassemble the brakes and throw them in a vice

yup. the shop i work at has so much random shit its unbeleivable.

also it is fairly easy to bend the brakes. i am half way through bending my brakes on my fks 155s for my 179 obsethes, and they are turning out sweet.

there is a mint tutorial for FKS on TGR and i am sure there is alot of helpful info on the salomons as well.

if i remember correctly the actual binding(salomon) is not to hard to take apart, and should be easy to bend.

if i were you i would use the fks tutorial for reference of how to bend em without a) breaking them or b) hurting urself.

You wanna know whats even worse!

I just bought Marker Griffons and i was thinking about getting the 130 brake,and i went to the shop i bought the bindings from and i asked how much the 130 brake would cost and they said it would be $100!!! A hundred dollars just for two brakes. So i ended up just getting the 110's and bending them,works out fine so far.

thats BS. there is no way they will charge 100 for breaks. you can buy them online for 40. my shop will give them to me for $5. they just gave me new breaks for my 14 frees for free

Straight up i asked them how much they would be and they said a hundred bucks cause they had to be ordered in straight from marker and they would be that much.No joke what so ever. If they were 40 bucks i would have bought them,but seeing as they told me they were 100 thats why i have bent 110's.

Yea tell me about it,they would give me deals on bike parts but now ever since i bought K2 skis (they sell volkl,rossi,dynastar) they dont give me nothin,so im never buyin shit from their again haha.
