does filing away the underboot part of your edge effect turning or edge grip?

no b/c if you think about it the most camber is under foot. i detuned my edges up a lil bit to make sure i wont catch an edge grinding with my new 12's... it works good so far.

the rail under your boot does do alot if you really know how to turn. If the edge didnt do anything why would they put it there? Just slide rails and it will wear down on its own.

After about 30 slides your edges will be plenty 'detuned.' And yes, the edge under your boot is very important...its give and take, would you rather have good edge grip in icier conditions (remedy, dont ski ice) or slide rails?

HA!, the section of edge under your foot is the most important section of edge. Its where you get all your 'grip'. If you agressively detune them, dont expect any hookup on ice.

Just switch your skis when you're doing rails and when you're doing the mountain. If you're doing rails, have the ski you would usually have on your right foot on your left foot and vice versa. That way the edges that get worn down on rails aren't as important when you're actually skiing.

Good to have seperate skis for each. Not like you can tell the difference between a dynastar, salomon, armada, etc just on a rail.
