Bending FKS 120 brakes

Can it be done without taking apart the binding? I need them to fit my blends, 100mm underfoot. Also I found that TGR guide to take out brakes with fks 155's and 185's, but if you do need to take apart the binding to bend the ski, is it done the same long way?

I searchbarred and couldn't find anything

Definitely take them apart. It's easier to break them if you try and do it on the ski, and it's not that hard to take them apart.

i've bent them to about 90 without taking them apart but that's the max, if you're going all the way to 100 you need to take them apart
but with a shorter bend bend out about 45 degrees and then down, always try to avoid the 90 90 if possible, they break way easier that way
make sure you know what you're doing and that you have a heavy duty vice

I've done them a few times without taking them apart, including my own ones. You still need a good vice to clamp everything TIGHT (blocks of wood top and bottom for protection). Bend both arms straight at the same time then for each arm clamp a vice grip onto the arm beside the binding housing then hold that tight while you bend with a pole/tube - this stops any stresses to the binding parts. Takes a quarter of the time, far less effort and gets it done just as well.

i would strongly recommend not bending them while on your skis, youhave a muc higher chance of breaking something internaly.  ime about to make a thread to bend people's brakes for a small fee. if your interested let me know.

*to clear this up, I would not be bending while the bindings were mounted.

so I read that thread powforbreakfast, but it didn't have any pictures. From what I understand you have to clamp the unbent brake arms (the part right next to the binding) on both sides, bend each part straight at the same exact time, then reclamp and bend again for the 90 degree angle? Pleaaase correct me if i'm wrong, I'd hate to trash brand new fks bindings.

Nope, I definitely wouldn't be trying that with FKS' - you'll snap them for sure

Yeah, that TGR thread gave you a step by step but the pictures are gone. The important thing is when you're re-bending you clamp it hard with your vice grips and torque against that when you bend so that nothing in the internals of the bindings get torqued. The nice thing is the size of the vice grip you use gives you the width of the bend and makes it nice and even.

Also I've heard of a lot of guys just doing it while mounted (including Rossi team). It's really no different to the method I'm talking about but it'll just be a little more tricky to get your vice grips in there to clamp. Just crank the din, snap in a boot and give 'er.

i did mine by takin them apart...very easy and u get too see how the binding works/how its made which is kinda cool(if your into mechanical stuff like me)

^^^^agreed,  Ive bent lik 20 pairs of em, and the only legit way to do it, is to take them apart and bend the brake piece separatly.  it may seem like a bitch, but the finished product is nice.  if you dont feel comfortable doing it holler at me

i heard fairbanks, alaska has a SUPER legit ski shop named beaver sports. They'd probably do it free of charge, and get it done on time and not be dicks about it.
