Hey guys, i moved to the LA area middle of last winter, and i was not here for the opening of mammoth or big bear's season. Does anyone know when they are expected to, or when they do usually open??? im dying to ski and cant find it online...

Bear is a great place to go if you want to stand in lift lines and talk to 10k snowboarders about the hottest trends in outerwear.
Mt High is closer and has half the crowds, they opened Thanksgiving weekend last year. Both feature lots snowboarders, ride on boxes, and other features designed to make the average beginner feel like they are the next big thing to hit snowboarding.
Snow Valley was actually the first to open last fall beating Bear, Mt High, and Mammoth by a small margin. Free rails with no lift service.
Avoid any of the resorts on the weekend.
Bear is my home mountain, but I skied High just as much last season. Both usually open late November. I'm waiting on the clouds to clear so I can see if the upper Elev. got snow with this recent storm.
Anyways, Both are good mountains. Bear is fun because the park stretches from the top to bottom with jumps and jibs spread out down the mountain. Also has some fun natural features too. High is the same way, but with a hell of a lot more jibs. Some times you spend more time dodging jibs because they're everywhere. I do like High's triple air line on chisolm. They get progressively bigger and the last jump was close to 50 feet and smooth at the end of last season. Wont find jumps bigger then that at either mountain....which sucks.
As for the crowds...both get busy and the weekends are nuts. Lift lines at Bear are usually worse, but parking sucks sometimes are High (too the point where you can't find any and have to leave). I usually go during the week and lines and parking aren't a problem. Bear has the beach bar which is outside and at the bottom of the mountain. Way better for hanging out and having a beer then High is.

well anyways, after thanksgiving on the weekends i wanna go to bear if they are open. anyone know how to get cheaper tickets?
Snow Valley is such a ridiculous resort, I went there once and got lost and really confused by the chairlifts that go up then down then up again.
I learned to ski at Mt High back when east side was never open and the biggest lift was a double. Mt High is pretty dope, if your hitting the park they have alot of interesting features like S boxes and the kicker with a log sticking out of it, and a staircase for some reason. East side has no park, but if you want to hit some groomers its chill because no matter how crowded west side gets no one ever goes to east side.
Bear/Summit are dope because a lift pass to one is a pass to both of them. I like the bowl area at Summit alot when shit is way too crowded because no one at those resorts is good enough to do a double black apparently and there is basically never a lift line. Bear's park is pretty dope too, its ironic because before the buyout Bear was for skier's mostly and Summit had all the park shit and was mostly snowboarders, but it totally switched a few years ago.
I don't think I would hit Mt. High if I lived closer to bear, but its like an hour less drive for me than bear so thats what I usually ski.
Its funny that other people said people at Bear are impressed easily because I've noticed if your bombing a diamond slope people on the chairlift watch you alot, even if your just mobbing around and not really doing anything impressive.
Mammoth is def. way better but you can't do a day trip there and staying is too expensive.
