Amen to that.
If girls want the same prize money they should just compete against men.
good on them!
of course its going to push the womens level of skiing...its not rocket science to understand this one...something like this is a step in the right direction to get more women involved in the sport therefore resulting in more competition out there...this will lead to girls pushing themselves to get onto podiums in the future...
This is a good incentive and gives girls a chance at doing what they love for a living... women in freeskiing make nowhere near the amount of money that the top male athletes do...which is fair enough and its the same in most other sports....the top female athletes probably make no more than what someone does at mcdonalds...so why would u wanna huck a double cork for a possible broken neck and then no money to pay off the hospital bills...
its not taking anything away from the mens, if anything it will be a step to push the sport as a whole...
choice
people can make a living out of it...they dont earn much but if they can ski and get by then thats up to them...so obviously at the end of the day they are doing it for the love of it...if they wanted to make bank they'd go get a real job...
lalaski was right....i dont think anyone read what she actually said, i dont think she was pointing out the fact that people make alot of money...they dont. but its a step towards a growth in the sport...and anything to make what we love grow, then i support that! why does eveyone gotta cut down on opportunities that other people get...if your not making it, then dont pay out those who are trying to...good on all the girls....i think they rip... last yr i saw some chicks throwing down some sick stuff i couldnt do...so props to them!
and pickupfulo something something...i dont see why sarah shouldnt be getting more money than wallisch...shes been around for years and has paved the way for womens freeskiing...good on her. wallisch will get there...it takes time in a small industry. its not a battle of the sexes dude, chill out, and stop dropping names....no one cares.
I have a question for you.
Why dont Special Olympic hockey players get as much as hockey players in the NHL?
end thread.
lets face it it's pretty much the same thing as paying superbowl advertising prize for advertising in a semi-pro hockey game . The exposure sponsors can get trought woman freeskiing event dosnt justify the $$$.
On another note I hope they'll enjoy it and find ways to get more people to watch.
I know lots of girls who are near the top, I'm not trying to offend, and none of this is personal, I'm talking about womens skiing in general.
Womens skiing is a total joke, Sarah has been steping it up these days but now she's so far ahead of everyone what kind of incentive does she have to keep pushing herself? There's a small handful of girls out there who can do 9s in the pipe, props roz, but even then... If a guy went to US open and did a couple 5s and a 9 he wouldn't even get through the first round, but for women that's a gold medal run, not to mention the style factor
You didn't say take money from guys, but you are basically suggesting subsidizing women's skiing.
For the record, I've never said anything close to that. In fact, if you are the prototypical "chick in the sport" I move to ban women from skiing. Thankfully, you seem to be the exception rather than the rule.
As its already been said, if economics are factoring into a woman's, or man's for that matter, desire to push themselves, that's disgusting. I know some do (many try) make a living at skiing, but how many of them said to themselves "I'm going to be a skier to get rich!! I'm going to go learn a right cab 10 so I can win the X!" It was only a couple of years ago that nooooone gave a fuck about skiing in general. Today's pros couldn't have been motivated by financial gain...because there simply wasn't (and still really isn't) money to be made.
As far as women's tennis goes, the gap in talent isn't comparable and if I'm not mistaken, the popularity of women's tennis rivals (if not surpasses) that of men's. Regardless, I'd say the average Joe could name more women tennis players than men. Women draw spectators/viewers so in tennis they should be compensated equally, or more so than men. Same goes for "ice dancing". Terrible example.
Why won't you go away? You literally contribute nothing of value.
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree...in the business world women do phenomenal work and pay gaps there are bullshit and indicative of the deep rooted, planet wide, discrimination against women. It sucks. Because in the business world, women "do the job just as well as the guy"...this isn't the case in the ski world.
If you are all for equality, then yes, women should compete against men.
You aren't making a point. Equal pay for equal work. I couldn't agree more.
Apparently now that gap is non-existent. If you scroll up, I suggested that women probably aren't paid fairly, but paying them at the same rate as the men isn't necessarily fair either.
I have no clue what the gap was previously, nor is it relevant to any point I've made.
You really believe that that women's skiing brings in the same amount of revenue (whether it be through, viewership, sponsorship, whatevership) as men's?
Wow. If you had some figures to support that, I'd drop my argument in earnest and jump on the bandwagon.
Until then, I'd guess that women's skiing generates far less revenue than men's.
NO thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Did men have a big cash incentive to push the sport when it was new? No. They just did it because they loved the sport. Your feminist theory is flawed. Get your vagina out of this and think about it in a logical way.
