isnt it more of a quality thing, both companies quality is AMAZING, i have a voleurz hoody and it is by far the most legit piece of clothing i have, worth every penny

yeah thats what I thought when I saw the $130 voleurz hoodie in the ns store.

well i just ordered 1 of the new jiberish hoodies for 90. i have 1 from last eason and i can say for the price it is worth it. last year i had a few 50-70 dollar hoodies and they are no where as nice as my jiberish 1

For me it comes down to quality, wearing a Voleurz sweatshirt is a thing of beauty and can't really be compared to "just another hoodie".

The time and detail that goes into desiging their gear is unreal, and really shows when you get to see and feel their finished product. They are 100% custom so they have the freedom to design what they believe (and I agree) is a near perfect product.

Not to mention they put together one of my favorite movies of the year, and are giving it away for free! It is definitely worth 30$ in my books and I support them for just doing their own thing and having a sick time gettin'er done

I stared long and hard at the voleurz hoodies being sold at if3.  no doubt they are fuckin sick, and well made.  but i just would never feel right about overpaying that hard for clothes. not sayin i judge those who would spend their (parents) money on these things, but i wouldnt feel right doing it myself

jiberish shit is cut and sewn, designer hoodies. not just like hoodies they bought en masse and screenprinted.

As you can clearly see, as the demand curve shifts rightwards the price of hoodies goes up but then when the supply curve shifts rightwards the equilibrium price drops lower than the initial price. And if these hoodies actually followed the 'supply and demand' theory, they would be cheaper than they are, since they sell out so quick

I'm going to disagree with the overpriced statement. I understand that people don't agree with the prices, but for their market (which is not entirely skiers) the prices are completely reasonable when put against other boutique and streetwear brands. Obviously, not many skiers are used to more pricey products, but the reailty is that you're paying for a quality fashion product, not a standard screen printed shirt (no knock on those either).

Skiing is probably one of the most expensive sports ever to keep having sick gear each year you have 3 options...be poor, become a pro, or go to school and get a job that can support your hobby.

I'm surprised nobody noticed that both D-structure quebec (with the $100+ jiberish hoodies) and the NS store ($100 voleurz hoodies) are both in Canada. I can get an average ski brand hoodie for $90, so is spending an extra $10-20 really gonna make a difference?

I'm biased towards Voleurz, but Mousseau pretty much nailed it when he said you're not just getting any tee or hoody when you buy Voleurz. The design and quality of their products is meticulous, they're not just slapping a graphic on any old tee, it's all in the details from start to finish with those guys. Most of their stuff has spandex in it so it doesn't lose its shape or wear out as quickly as your standard tees/hoodies. For those of you who've seen the stuff in person I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

i think both companies make really sick stuff but they are really too expensive... they take a little bit of advantage of being ski companies so the people that want to support ski companies spend their money on them and they pay extra for that, i think they should at least give some discount if you buy more than one or something cause if not its not like i dont want to buy them but i prefer on spending that amount of money on something that i really need, but thats just my opinion

considering the fact that i can get world-famous designer-brand clothes for the same price, i'm going to pretend as if Jiberish is just another FCUK or GUESS store, and buy their high priced clothes because apparently, like FCUK or GUESS clothes, they are of the highest quality and won't fall apart within a few months of wearing them.

branding 101

Wow, there is some really insightful stuff in this thread and it is always nice to hear what you guys think both positive and negative regarding clothing.  I have to agree with a lot of what was said in here.  I will speak for Jiberish here in regards to our clothing and I assume that the guys from Voleurz are in the same boat as us.  No doubt our clothing is really really expensive.  We absolutely understand and agree with the frustrations you all point out and we wish that we did not have to charge what we do.  When we started this thing back in 2003, there were 2 ways directions we could have gone in terms of our clothing.

1.  Make clothing that we could produce easily and for a reasonable price.  Designs could be pretty straight forward and with large numbers we could make the clothing for less and pass along those savings to the consumer.  The quality would be less, we would not be doing cut-and-sew production, so we would be printing on blanks made by Gildan or Hanes.  If we had a big following we could do high volume and attempt to be everywhere in the snowsports realm. 

2.  Make custom cut-and-sew clothing with our own fabrics.  The designs would have to be on the level of the fabrics we used so they would cost more.  The production would be more complex since we would be creating the clothing from scratch and this would make the clothing more expensive.  We would not be mass marketing to everyone and so our brand would be less exposed.  We would sell less pieces but each piece would sell at a higher price.

It was an east choice for us to do #2 and quite frankly it was never even a question.  The reason is, we would never produce clothing that we wouldn't wear ourselves.  We don't wear the type of clothing that is produced in #1.  Jiberish stands for all of the hard work, dedication, creativity, and passion that goes into what we produce.  Our stuff is not for everyone and we aren't demanding that you buy it.  Not everyone wants cut-and-sew clothing and we respect and understand that.  The brand stands for what we believe in and what we wanted Jiberish to be.  The clothing we make represents the influences and inspirations in our lives.  We make clothing that we want to wear....and we are so stoked that you guys are out there wearing it too because that means that you like what we are producing.

Unfortunately the financials of cut-and-sew clothing production to not allow our clothing to be inexpensive, or even reasonable when compared to your standard hoodie or tee.  Our orders are miniscule in comparision to a Volcom or an LRG so we pay out the nose to get our clothing made but we also do not cut corners.  An example of this was our Treez and Zeebz hoodie last year.  It was such an important piece for us to have in our line last year, that we made it even though we lost $32 on every single one that we sold.  It cost us over $90 to make that hoodie and we sold it to shops for $58.  We don't go around advertising that, but if it helps you guys understand a little bit more about the logistics of what we do, it is worth noting.  And I am sure a lot of you are scratching your heads as to why we would do something that seems so stupid, but that is a whole nother conversation. 

You have a LOT of choices out there when you buy clothing and we completely understand that.  There are so so so many dope brands out there that produce clothing that we love and respect.  In its truest sense clothing provides a basic function but it also is a tool that allows people to express themselves externally.  Buy the clothing you like and wear brands that you connect with.  Our stuff is not for everyone and we don't want to be "all things to everyone".  We want to produce clothing that we like.  The fact that you guys are buying it is incredible to us and we are so thankful for the support.  We know you have a TON of options out there in terms of where to spend your money so the fact that you give us your business means more to us than anything.

I'd almost say jiberish and voleurz gear is relatively price inelastic..maybe it's just me, but I was happy to pay the price voleurz wanted to charge for a number of reasons

Quick question...I like Jiberish a lot but if it's not for everyone, why aren't the skiers and riders modeling the clothing? On the website, there is a dude with crazy dreads that I don't believe is on the jiberish team and doesn't look like he knows how to ski. I could be incredibly wrong...just curous?

the sad thing is that peole are obviously paying that high of a price. but if i had the money ( if i was rich) id def. buy.

$100+ is more than I'd ever want to spend on a piece of clothing. But if the money goes towards supporting a sick video company that puts out FREE videos, I think I can manage...

Definitely SICK hoodies made by both companies, and i am definitely buying a jiberish hoodie this year. I was hoping to buy the orange cross dot hoodie which i personally think is the sickest sweatshirt i have ever seen, but unfortunately its 110 dollars, so i guess ill have to settle for the cloud 10 haha

the thing is the economy is decreasing in value aswell as our money thats one reason i would think that they are charging that much for there products.

yeah i mean you get what you pay for. its just not rational thinking for most people to spend 100- 120 dollars on a hoodie. especially with how shitty the economy is. retail business is horrible right now. but obviously thats their choice to buy.

im not saying jiberish or voleurz arent quality companies, if i had money id buy that shit up real fast, but right now im poor. sooo thats that. those 2 businesses are doing just fine with those high prices so nothings going to change.

i mean, i talked to dave about this. they want to be extremely loyal to the ski community, but also branch out a little bit into music and art. they could probably explain this better, but its not like skiing is their only focus, its just the main one. besides, if they just sold their clothing on their riders, they would be a better form of Empire. Their clothing pretty much sells itself, id buy some even if it wasnt a ski brand. But its even sicker that it is.

once you see/feel one of the hoodies you'll understand why they're a tad pricey. they're not just hanes cotton hoodies with screen printed designs on them (like band hoodies and stuff). its hard to see quality through pictures/videos.

i agree. i dont qute understang voleruz. but jibberishes tees are from 25-30$ which is extremly reasonable for what they are.

Of course the price of the hoodies would drop if there was a shift to the right in the supply curve as this means there is greater supply.

Its a mix of everything, demand for the jibberish stuff is high because of how it is perceived due to good branding, good design, quality product and there is also not a massive supply.

Anyways it comes down to common sense, these are properly made garments that will last, and are more individual. Also back to economics there probably not gonna be able to make them cheap jibberish isnt some massive company like Oakley where they can get their costs down. Id rather pay more for a product thats worth it and support a company that has good goals and supports up and coming skiers than some company that wants a nice fat margin for reproducing the same old crap slightly differntly.
