A Voting Rant (NOT PRO OBAMA OR MCCAIN)

Now, this is not going to turn into a mccain this obama that thread, this has nothing to do with either candidate.
I am in college. I want to be able to vote on issues in my home state, so i applied for an absentee ballot. I sent in one application. they claimed i hadnt filled it out properly, had me send in another. i still have yet to receive my ballot. when i called their office today the guy said "we probably have it, we just havent opened it yet. its a week before the election how the hell have they not sent it out yet!.
We wonder why most elections have a bad turnout, what the hell do they expect to happen when they make the process so damn difficult. Make voting easier, make it so damn simple every person over 18 can do it! Have it be a voting week or weekend (i understand there is limited early voting but i wanna see more). Make it in more places, make it so that you can do it from home! It could only improve things as it would allow more americans to speak their mind about politics

I agree that it sucks that you don't have a ballot yet, but it is incredibly easy to follow the step by step instructions on them so I don't agree that it's not easy enough already.

I watched a "commercial" yesterday about absentee ballots as well. At one point they said that military personnel had to have theirs in by Nov 17th. Does this sound funny to anyone? It should since the election is the 4th. I still havent figured that out.

illinois just have to be postmarked by election day. as long as they receive them within 14 days of the election your good.

overseas/military ballots get those extra two weeks. usually they have some reason why they can't fill out the ballot as quickly as you can. perhaps due to them being a little farther away from home or being in an active combat zone. if its funny, then check out the federal voting assistance program (https://www.fvap.com/)

Yes, thank you. I understand that part of it. My question is why the 17th? Literally the 17th. A good week and a half AFTER the elections.

i should be getting an absentee ballot but it hasnt came yet either. i hear they dont even count absentee ballots unless they need too. for example if 3000 people get absentee ballots and the difference for candidates is over 3000 they wont count them. connecticut is gonna vote obama anyway you look at it so it makes me feel less shitty if i dont get to vote.

hence why in a super close election (2000) it takes so long to determine the president. however you can look at the numbers vs the number of registered voters that have applied for absentee ballots and know that even if every single one voted for a single candidate, it still wouldn't change the way the state went. so unless its ridiculously close, it doesn't really matter.

NOBODY over 18 has the right to complain about our government if they didn't vote. period.
