PVC Rail question

 I am stuck though on how to attach the pvc to the wood bottom of the rail im buliding. What would be the best way

i put a hole in the ends of each rail, and then put a screw through, then some small L brackets (small enough to make like a cradle without getting hit when sliding) and put them in the middle, then some gorilla glue for extra hold

drill up in to the pvc then put a bolt on it

This is the best way, because then the surface you slide on is still perfectly smooth. Search bar next time though.

yea but u can always go through the bottom half of it diagonally into the wood

cut a bit of brook handle off stick it in teh pipe and drill through both if you drill just through the pipe it will shatter

also counter sink the screw so it does not catch ur ski

I know everyone is saying drill from the bottom up but it isnt the most durable way. The best way and I will admit I was worried at first but drill a hole just big enough in the top of the Pvc and then drill in from the top down through. Much more durable then from the bottom. You wont ever feel the holes, I thought I would but after everyone telling me to do it this way I did it and It works better. Btw Ive tried from the bottom also but it can make the rail less sturdy and the pipes move around more. So I mean time wise the drilling from the bottom works much better but I would rather spend the extra 30 min or so it lasts an extra month or two.

Good luck and I forgot to say, Its not a bad Idea to put some liqued nails on the sides of the Pvc pipe

ok this is the best i have found and i've used it many times.  get some liquid nail or construction adhesive and apply it the length of the pvc just like glue and stick it on to the wood surface.  then i put a screw inside the pvc on each end and use bungie cords to strap the pvc to the surface till it cures, bout 24 hrs.  hope this helps

i just cut a hole on the top of the pvc pipe and put the nails in there and jus waxed where the whole is

works fine

I just drill from the top.You could sand it down a little if you want. It won't catch and you will have a sturdier rail faster.

take a 2bi4 and then put a strait line on it with a chalk sting tool then screw up partially (just so you can see the screw coming out the other side) through the 2bi4 then put the pvc pipe onto the 2bi4 and drill the rst of the way through the pvc pipe

sorry if that didnt make any sense, I tried to explain the best I could

i have 2 ways that i have done it:
1.   drill a hole all the way through the pvc. you wont catch your edge on the hole on top if you            file/countersink it. then just put your screw down in, put a little glue in the hole in the wood, and your set
2.   I did this on a small rail that i actually put 2 pieces of pvc pipe in the ground and the legs go in the pipes so i can take it out in the summer and leave the pvc pipes in the ground. but what i did was cut a 2 rectangles out of the bottom of the pvc pipe that was for the rail, stuck two small pieces of wood in them, drilled a hole through the side, and bolted them onto the pvc pipe. dont ask me how i cut the holes in the pvc because i dont remember.

some people say drill up through the bottom but this is not as sturdy as drilling for the top down

Construct initial boards

DRILL UP THROUGH BOTTOM!
leaves clean PVC for slidin

friend did it and it works great

same, except i used screws.  you can also bevel the edges from where you cut the hole in the top.

best way to do it just make sure u drill your holes out and if i were you go to metal, with my experiences the pvc doesnt last very long especially in cold weather a good bang and itll break.

i drilled holes on the side of the pvc and then drilled at an angle into the 2X6, this was on a shotgun rail, so the hole were on the outside of both pvc pipes. i havent slid it yet but the hole arent inthe way so they shouldnt be a problem
