Trade my Mac Book for a mac book pro

ok so i have a one year old black mac book with a 2.1 ghz core 2 duo with a 200 gb hardrive. and 2 gb of ram



My roomate had a slightly older mac book pro with a 2.0 core 2 duo with a 8-gb hard drive and 512 mb of ram

Now i do alot of video editing on final cut pro now i know this computer is alot less of a computer but what the plan would be is buy 4gb of ram and a 360 7200rpm hardrive and what is nice with the pro is that i can run ESATA for an external hardrive. i am planning these upgrades on my mcabook now anyways the question would would it be better with a mac pro with only a 2.0 processor vs a 2.1

i would trade it. 100mhz isnt going to make much of a difference plus your gonna get more ram.

You want a mbp because its graphics card is not an onboard and the bus is slightly faster.

Make sure your mbp can take 4 gigs. A lot of them take 3.

You cant run most of the apps in Final Cut Studio on a MacBook because the graphics card can't handle it. You also can put more than 3GB of RAM into a MacBook.

You need a MacBookPro.

Too bad I just sold my 4 month old MacBook Pro with FCP and 4gb of RAM for $1450.

According to wikipedia its the first gen macbook pro therefore you will only be able to upgrade to 2gb ram, basing this on the fact it has a 80gb hdd n 512 ram whereas the next gen comes with 1gb standard.

and yeah trade the graphics card is what you want because integrated graphics cards are poop. Replacing the hdd in a macbook pro is harder than on a macbook but is definatley doable and wont void your warranty even though there are mixed reports but the offical one or so i heard is it dusnt void anything other than the warranty on the orignal hdd. You could always get a external usb hdd but i would stick in a 7200 rpm internal if your gonna do video editing. Btw according to apples site final cut pro reccomends 4gb of ram for editing hd video so you might wanna weigh that into your decision.

Ok well if that is the case than i should probally stick with my Mac Book because i can get 4gb of memory for it and a better hardrive and i already have the faster processor. two things i will be missing out on are the Esata port option and the video card.

If your video editing the MBP is still goign to be the better option it wouldnt cost that much to upgrade it and atleast you would be able to run Final Cut Pro. Whereas your left pretty limited with the macbook beacause of the internal graphics card. You might be better off just selling the macbook and putting up some cash towards a slightly newer MBP off ebay or something.
