They didn't even announce a winner at the event. Hell, half of the [drunken] athletes didn't even know by last night. It was like they threw the event together on Friday night.

the setup wasn't great but winning any competition with skiers of that level is respectable and winning $5,000 is always nice too

haha did you even see the setup? So fucking sketchy. Events cannot continually be putting rider's safety in jeopardy. They need to do things legitimately. I give the riders MAD props for daring to even hit that thing. It would be so easy to have a season-ending injury on a feature like that. The thing is, people put on events like this 7 years ago (SnowJam) and they were a great success. This was 7 years ago, perfect drop in with a nice 15-foot+ quarter pipe. That tow-in was schiesty as fuck.

Its funny how the announcer's tried to spin the riders complete dissatisfaction and anger with the setup. They were like "ohh yeaaa such a unique feature". Icer Air last year was pretty legit but they took a MASSIVE step backward with this effort. I did hear something about the possibility of some sponsors backing out at the last minute or something? I dunno what thats all about but they must have had some pretty poor organization if sponsors wanted to back out, these kind of things need to be secured.

And I thought they were saying that the riders had agreed to split the cash-purse because the set-up was "so unique". Not 100% positive about that.

ok, here's my take of the situation:

1. Icer took a serious risk putting this thing on after all their sponsors pulled out. But everyone got to see great skiers ski in downtown SAN FRANCISCO. Plus, you got to go to all the other parities and events in a great city w/ a bunch of your friends. I'm bummed I wasn't there.

2. Pro skiers are paid to win events. If the setup is sketchy, you suck it up cause it's your job - and they did it. This year's setup was definitely a little better than the freak show scaffolding of the first year. At least they did this and didn't try to go bigger w/ less. From what I've read, the winner got $5,000 - I'd give that thing a whirl for $5,000.

3. Icer Air is what it is. How hard can you hate? What if it was your JOB to put this event on? In other words, you don't have a fucking choice - either you make something happen or you don't have a job anymore. I'd say they did what they could. Imagine how you would feel if you planned this event for a year and lost all your sponsorship at the very end.

4. We don't know what next year looks like yet. I'm figuring it will either die off for good or have to come back w/ a vengance.

yeah... last years was sick as hell. THis years was "eh"...

the jump was awkward and the rope slingshot was downright unsafe. To add to that, they said the event was going off at 6pm, and they bumped it up 3 hours without telling anyone, so tons of people missed it by going to the red bull boxcar race that weekend.

That being said it was still a fun day and the afterparties were hectic.
