Summer skiing in Argentina

The better resorts in Argentina are Cerro Catedral (in Bariloche), Les Lenas and Ushuaia. Catedral has a bit of everything (above treeline bowls, awesome treeruns, park...) Las Lenas has some crazy steep scary freeriding.

Getting a job would be very hard and pay pretty much nothing. Salaries are incredibly low in Argentina.. What you would earn in a month, you could probably earn in couple of days in the USA.

Housing is super cheap around Bariloche, of course it all depends how crappy or luxurious you want to go. Finding a place to sleep in Las Lenas is a lot harder, you're looking at $30 per night sharing a small room with a lot of dudes.

The party scene is the best in the cities (Buenos Aires, Mendoza etc..) it's allright in Bariloche, depends what your expectations are.

Thanks for the good info appreciate it, im thinking we're probably gonna have to wait another summer when we have more saved up, summers the time i make my money so this trip would definitely be a struggle for that reason but i feel itd be worth it

Bump, and i guess this pertains to summer skiing in general, if you think new zealand or where ever is better let me know, and when does the season normally start and end?

NZ generally has less powder but better parks. You should have a look at the 5th Hunting Yeti webisode, they have shots from Australia, Argentina and NZ and give you a good idea of what kind of skiing you'd be doing in each.

season runs from June to October (more or less). It depends on the resort. In September in NZ you'll be spring skiing, while in South America you will be enjoying Santa Rossa (crazy amounts of powder).

ok so if yolur running on a budget want to ski all the time and not work then argentina is the place. you can quite happily live off $100 dollars a week, not including accomodation.

you food, (lunch in your pockets on the mountain), cheep reasterants by night.

drinks (9 peso = $2 dollar half pint cocktails in southbar at night),

weed ($30-$50 dollars an once)

1 liter of beer is a 1 buck less if you return the bottles in supermarkets

the bus from baralochie is about $2 to the hill, its way more preferable to hitch hike with strangers for cigerettes etc if your not on a tight time scale. when hitch hiking dont do it as a group of two or more boys split up and get chatting to some girls and you will get picked up way quicker.

you can get a room in a nice hostel for 15 - 25 peso a night in town is more expenceive out of town is cheeper and more costly to get home atfer a night out. it is also easyer to hitch hike to the hill once out of town.

Im working on the same plan this summer, barilloche

i'm from bariloche, what i find more expensive is the lift tickets, that would be around 50U$S compared to hostels, nightlife.. etc.. best thing maybe if you're a small group is to rent a house and that would be much cheper than paying a hostel everyday round 20-25 bucks..
chapelco also ir really good, (smaller than catedral) only 3 hours from bariloche by bus..
best parks= chapelco, esquel and bariloche,
best BC= las leñas and bariloche.
best nightlife close to the resort =bariloche
most expensive= las leñas
less crowded= cerro bayo (1 hour from bariloche) nice railyard.

Anyway, im really looking to try and get some skiing done at the end of the summer and argentina was what i might be looking at
