QUESTIONS ABOUT SKIING CULTURE 2 HELP!!!

come on fellas!!! the time is NOW!!! we have to overcome and ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS!!

YEAH

1. when i ski i def wear big and baggy. i'll wear either a tall beanie or a beanie with ear flaps,goggles, and a bandanna.

2. yeah i skiied this summer on ice rink shavings, and on some turf in the backyard.

3. i view the sport as doing what i think is fun. i don't like being restricted so i'll go anywhere on the hill.( i live in ohio.). likie with racers i think that there restricted to goin inbetween the gates and shit. sure thats cool if you like that kinda structure, but with park theres so many limitations, and then theres urbans so you don't even have to ski at a resort. so i prolly ski cuz of the freedom that i have, and of course its fun.

1. Somewhere in between baggy and normal, I don't dress gangsta, just comfortable and whatever is conducive to a wide range of movement. I also have a bandana, but its not gangsta, its just comfy and doesn't freeze like ski tubes do. Mittens are always standard equipment.

3. I believe that I view the sport alot different than racers or recreational skiers. There are skiers, and then there are skiers. Us skiers here on NS ski for the love of the sport, because its something we're passionate about, and something we love for various reasons. I don't believe that is common in racing, look at Henrik for an example of love of the sport, and then look at the race teams from around the world. You've got the best, richest, racers in the world who can get just about any training tool they want. And they spend their days training and their summers relaxing. If you look at pro freeskiers, they're getting out as often as possible. They ski all day, then all night, and when the season ends where they live, they go to new zealand, and ski there, or argentina. People think I'm a tool because I love something so much and am so dedicated to the lifestyle of skiing. I just think its sad they don't have something that equates to what I personally get out of skiing.

Overall, the main difference between rec skiers, racers and freeskiers is that we ski as a lifestyle. They ski as a sport.

1. Up until now, I've had the gaper look, but this year I got myself a nice matching baggy suit, crowbars, a nice helmet, some sick skis and the whole thing. maybe a bandana? it's pretty dope

2. I've skied a lot in the summer, including 2 different turf+rail setups and a few ice rink snow+box setups. the dropin ramps and rails are dope, my friends have so many. i've also water ramped once at lake placid. that's all, unless you count nosepresses on the lawn.

3. i view the sport as a social event and way to make memories, conversations, cultural attachments, etc. i love the chilling aspect of it, i go with a ton of my friends and we have so much fun. i even ski on cornell campus where i live, i love urban missions, backyard seshes in the summer, trips to different mountains, progression it pretty much gives my life a huge boost. i think racers are more concentrated on the competitive side and the commitment and they aren't so much like us freeskiers.

1. i dont wear fitted stuff usually, and i wouldnt consider myself overly gangster either. i guess you could say baggy within reason. i wear a helmet, goggles OVER the helmet usually (function over form), bandana half the time, pretty big jacket, pretty big pants (low-ridden). i usually wear a long sleeve tee with a t-shirt/polo, and a fleece when its cold.

2. i cant say ive skied in summer. i rollerblade as an alternative.

3.my view on skiing: its awesome, i love it, its pretty much the best thing in the world. i love the artsyness and creativity involved with lines/tricks/style, and everything else. i think ordinary people and racers see park skiers as delinquint kids who werent priveleged enough to be put in racing. i think racers see skiing in an entirely different way than we do, unless they also freeski.

I agree and disagree with what you said.  There are racers that view racing as a sport, but the majority of them, or at least my friends, truly love skiing.  When we hang out thats all we talk about, and they do wear baggy clothes when they freeski, and they are good at it.  You might be thinking that they probably just arent serious about racing but you are wrong.  One of my friends who is like this goes to SMS (stratton mountain school) and skis all year round and is top ten in the country for racing, but he still loves freeskiing and skiing with friends, i think that people who dont "ski" as you said can still love it the same, they just dont have as much steeze.

As a racer, I'm bummed that people have that perception. As for skiing as a "lifestyle," that's how it is for me and all of my friends. All day, all year, we dream about skiing the same way you do, and it's sketch that you can have such strong opinions when I'm pretty sure you don't have tons of experience with it. (sorry if i'm wrong about that, it just seems that way by what you're saying). If you knew a lot of racers, you'd realize that we're out there for the same thing; an epic day skiing is epic no matter what you're focusing on, it's all about loving what you're doing. I could never dis kids who focus on the freestyle part of the sport, you guys kill it, and you're a chill crew to hang out and ski with. As for relaxing in the summer time? What? It sucks for everyone when there's no snow, it's just generally bummy, and every racer i know gets their ass up somewhere where there is some.  And if you're just hating on racers because it seems like the anti-freeskier, I jsut want to let you know that there are plenty of racer kids who throw down in the park, and are just generally dirty skiers, and who are definitely straight steezin all day long. Sure there are the pricks out there that give racers the rep of being all about business, but you can't say that there aren't freeski kids who get tripped up in the money end of it. I don't mean to call you out or anything, i just think that you need to give a little more credit to the racer kids...we're all skiers.

baggy. try to fit in with the guys. occasionally a bandana...

2.  Have you skiied in the summer?  If so list all the things you've tried (Hood, Whistler, Ice rink, backyard w/turf, etc.)

3.and finally, How do you view the sport?  do you think it compares to how racers and stuff view the sport?
for me, skiing is life.  I want to be involved in the industry for as long as possible whether it's a design team, being sponsored & competing, ski instructor, etc.  I think skiing is different for everyone and it's really hard to judge or classify how much someone likes it or not just because they choose to focus on a different category than others (cross country vs. racing vs. pipe...).

You ought to take a look at the 23+ page thread on what 08/09 outerwear kids will be wearing. Its intresting that one of the biggest threads on this site right now is about looks. says alot about kids on this site...

i keep it clean i wear a little baggy but preffer more of the clean dare i say preppy look.  matching gear. i never got into tall tees or emo pants or anything like that up untill last year i rocked north face stuff all the time. 

2.  Have you skiied in the summer?  If so list all the things you've tried (Hood, Whistler, Ice rink, backyard w/turf, etc.)  i went out to high cascade when i was in high school, and been to chile once, when people get to gether for jams and stuff i am all about it just dont expect me to help with the shioveling i am more of a supervisor.

i beleive racers suck and our sport is a completely different sport with a completely different mindset.  back in the day it was skiers vs snowboarders now i thing freeskiers and snowboarders play well togerther and it is them v racers as for as mountain politics go.

Also the style of skiing is different in every reigion, which i think is pretty cool. We have our own termonology that know one from my experience has been able to guess at correctly. But basically its the shit
