As like most of my posts on NS this might be long, hopefully you like the read though.
Having never made one I was curious, just how well these work. So I set out to do some research. Looking for all the different ways to make a pipe out of an apple. Some had me using knives, aluminum foil, and to me it seemed like a lot of unnecessary filler. So here's what I did!
Step one: Take the apple and remove stem
Step two: Find an old bic pen (you know the ones you can buy a pack of like 20 for a dollar)
Step three: Take the bic pen and remove the ink well in the middle. Nasty ink in your apple is no good.
Step four: Stab the apple vertically through the spot where the stem was about 3/4 of the way down. -->This will be your "bowl"
Step five: Stab the apple horizontally about halfway down so this whole you are making meets up with the hole you just made in step 4. --->This will be your mouth piece.
Step six: make another horizontal hole for your "carb" you can make it anywhere on the apple so long as it's confortable in your hands. Just make sure this hole meets up with your original vertical hole.
Step seven (optional): Now take about the pen leaving just the shaft and tip, haha, and put it back in the hole you made in step 5. This will extend your mouthpiece so you don't go and burn your mouth from being too close to the flame.
In these easy steps you can make a pipe. Super easy and so quick its ridiculous.
If you plan on eating the apple, then don't forget to take out the ink part.
Also you might need to carve out the apple a little bit more to make a bigger bowl. But this can be done with anything. I used my teeth!
I'd compare the smoke to a little glass pipe. It was surprisingly not that harsh and the apple taste was kinda fun.
