Bo Burnham performs 'My Whole Family Thinks I'm Gay' for Sky News Online
The musical satirist has been hailed as one of the up-and-coming stars of the comic world - and it all started when he uploaded a video to YouTube recorded in his bedroom for a joke.
His song, My Whole Family Thinks I'm Gay, became a cult hit almost overnight.
Bo, real name Robert, has now been snapped up to write a movie described by himself as 'a real life version of High School Musical'.
He told Sky News Online: "Basically not everyone in it will look like a supermodel. It will be more real."
The call came just two years after his rise to fame on the web where 30 million people have viewed his musical comedy videos.
He has been in the UK to perform at the Big Joke Comedy Festival at the Leicester Square Theatre performing in the same line-up as Joan Rivers and Rosanne Barr.
Bo tackles harsh issues such as racism and homophobia, most of his lyrics are unsuitable to reproduce, but why is one teenager's verbal offerings so appealing to so many?
"If I was a man in my 40s with a beard and tattoos I would be booed of the stage but I think my age works in my favour," he said.
"The British sense of humour really seems to get the lyrics, the people in the US are more sensitive but the UK sense of humour allows more for satire."
The former Catholic schoolboy has deferred his university place for a year while he performs.
