they wouldn't reinstate the draft, they just woouldn't, look how unpopular vietnam was with everyone, it wasn't the u.s' war, same goes for this war in iraq, the draft would be hihgly umpopular and at this time there is no need for that many people to be over there

This is a rediculous post, the draft will NOT be reinstated. The nature of modern war is one incompatable with large numbers of poorly trained soldiers. The modern war is fought by a small number of soldiers and a large amount of technology.

WHO MUST REGISTER
Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male aliens living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service. It's important to know that even though he is registered, a man will not automatically be inducted into the military. In a crisis requiring a draft, men would be called in sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth. Then, they would be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces.

A chart of who must register is also available.

NON-CITIZENS
Some non-citizens are required to register. Others are not. Noncitizens who are not required to register with Selective Service include men who are in the U.S. on student or visitor visas, and men who are part of a diplomatic or trade mission and their families. Almost all other male noncitizens are required to register, including illegal aliens, legal permanent residents, and refugees. The general rule is that if a male noncitizen takes up residency in the U.S. before his 26th birthday, he must register with Selective Service. For a more detailed list of which non-citizens must register, see Who Must Register - Chart .

DUAL NATIONALS
Dual nationals of the U.S. and another country are required to register, regardless of where they live, because they are U.S. nationals.

HOSPITALIZED OR INCARCERATED MEN
Young men in hospitals, mental institutions or prisons do not have to register while they are committed. However, they must register within 30 days after being released if they have not yet reached their 26th birthday.

DISABLED MEN
Disabled men who live at home must register with Selective Service if they can reasonably leave their homes and move about independently. A friend or relative may help a disabled man fill out the registration form if he can't do it himself.

Men with disabilities that would disqualify them from military service still must register with Selective Service. Selective Service does not presently have authority to classify men, so even men with obvious handicaps must register now, and if needed, classifications would be determined later.

FULL-TIME MILITARY EXEMPTED FROM REQUIREMENT
Young men serving in the military on full-time active duty do not have to register. Those attending the service academies do not have to register. If a young man leaves the military before turning 26, he must register.

NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVES
Members of the Reserve and National Guard not on full-time active duty must register.

CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS
Men who would be classified as Conscientious Objectors if they were drafted must also register with Selective Service. If a draft begins and they are called, they would have the opportunity to file a claim for exemption from military service based upon their religious or moral objection to war.

You dont even register anymore. They register for you. I got my card in the mail last week and was like 'what the fuck, i didnt sign up for this' I was pissed. But really, the draft will probably never be reinstated.

I think bush was right in going to war if we would of gone sooner we woul dof found wmd but since every1 want us to go to the united nations and shit they had enough time to move most of everything. Also didnt we find a mobile weapons truck i remeber we did. ALso more ppl die in D.C. than ppl in iraq per month.

iraq isnt the only brutal dictatorship in the world. there are plenty others, like pretty much all of africa. since Bush is such a generous guy, why doesn't he wage war on ALL the dictatorships??? I think the fact that Iraq sits on a huge reserve of oil has a lot to do with it. Guaranteed, there is a cartain money ammount where the war will no longer be profitable. once thats spent, the US will leave Iraq like a cheap hooker. its a huge gamble he's taken, if the war can pay for itself, the US will be fine. If it doesnt, US taxpayers will have an astronomical bill to pay for decades.

I would give up my life if need be, in order to preserve and protect, freedom, liberty, and justice.

Funny, I ask myself why are we going to war and I can think of a few damn good reasons that are more than justifiable. How about the fact that terrorists have obtained weapons of mass destruction capable of waging a chemical war like the world has never seen before. That war would have been fought on our soil, our homeland if we had not taken this iniative step.

WMD:(please, don't speak how they don't have wmd. The U.N. acknowledged that Iraq had wmd, America knew, Iraq admitted originally. Now they claim they do not have it. Anyone in their right mind knows damn well that Saddam would not have just destroyed weapons that he's spent billions on.
Why haven't we found them? Iraq is a big country. Saddam had free access into neighboring terrorist countries such as Syria where he could have stored them. Also, we have been finding rockets and missiles buried underground. How long would it take you to find weapons buried underground in a country the size of California?

You're making a big generalization, it sounds like you think that every muslim in middle-east is a terrorist. If Saddam had WMD why didn't he use them againts US troops when he still had power? Because he was afraid that US would nuke him or what do you think. And don't tell me they have just hidden them. US Air Force is in total control and they can see everything that is going on there. If there were WMD someone would know where they are, and that someone would have already told it to US army in hope for reward.

this is just kind of a general statement, but I think the war on terror in Iraq or wherever else will never end because of why people do it. For the Sake of Religon, mostly. And Since that can't really go away, it'll keep happening. My personal veiw is that we go on the attack and demoralize them while we can, but it has to be justafyable evidence. WEhat Bush did in Iraq is Saving those people, but without real good cause. We should be focusing on North Korea, THat's Just my take on it

Actually, America is hated more than Americans. For instance, when I went to Egypt two years ago, the guide we had said that he disliked American Imperialism, but loved Americans (b/c they provided most of his salary). In addition, look at France. McDonald's (an American firm) has seen much success in a country that has traditionally been opposed to change in general, nevermind American fast-food. McDonald's in Paris are packed, yet the French hate American POLICY. That's the key. Most don't dislike Americans so much as the government.

You know it sounds like the kids from the other countries are jealous. Do you really think that ALL the facts are being released? Do you think that they can give us all of the real reasons for the stuff they do? No they can't.

You act like its Bush's fault we went to war. Well guess what. It's not. There is a whole congress too. We elected them too. Don't blame one guy just because he's in power. He has a whole team of advisors that are most likely smarter than all of you.
