Being from Baltimore, I get pretty lame seasons year after year. Its sad to not be able to ski when snow isnt around, which is most of the year for me. So for the past 4 months, I have been developing a variation of a freestyle ski that is used for riding pavement. At the moment I have a good prototype goin: a 4 ft long, 4 inch wide compressed and fiberglassed ski bent to twin tip shape. It has mini skateboard trucks in the back for turning and a single wheel in the front. For now I just put some old bindings on them and wear my boots when riding but in the future I want something simpler and lighter. I also have grind plates on them for sliding rails (and they have plenty of room for sliding rails). For the fact that im using pretty low- quality materials, they work surprisingly well. You can pretty much do any freestyle function on them like rails, switch riding, and potentially ramps and pipe. Theyre definately different from roller blading and any other street ski because they allow you to do stuff that is directly related to newschool skiing. I want the newschooler community to grow and get a fun product out there where kids can practice any where and any time while still being around freeskiing. So now I ask your help in growing my idea. I am ready to file for a patent but I need to know how to market this and to what companies. If youve got any comments, interests, or connections, let me know.
those do look dope though. maybe you could have it so that ski kind of splits the wheels, thus less wheel to worry about when grinding. it would be an awkward mount, but i bet it could be done. its kind of hard to explain but have it so you can see the top half of the wheel like on top of the ski, but the bottom half is below the ski. i hope people see what i'm saying
i tried something like that without trucks on the back and it didn`t work too well, i would suggest looking at a setup similar to freebord`s if you really want to be able to shred in the summer, or purchase some rollerblades, it`s different but super fun
looks sick. I would buy those in a heartbeat. I kind of have to agree with not using ski boots because of the heat, and they would get pretty toasty while ripping around. Maybe you could use some kind of a snowboard-binding type design (with the toe strap and ankle strap with heel piece). I have never snowboarded so I wouldn't know how much movement you get with that type binding. How much would you sell these for if you did get them manufactured?
yea self propelled as if u were roller blading. And by the way I have been doing the wheel thru ski thing, you jus cant tell in the pic. There are a few things that need to be tweaked but I could definately make em a lot better if I had better materials or parts. So far the parts have been super cheap and easy to get so they wouldnt be that expensive. I jus need a company to back me up ya know?
I like the ski boot idea cause it would feel more like your skiing and you have more support. Make them longer too. Also, what's the point of having a tip. You wouldn't really need one would you?
