Waxing skis

I just bought a new pair of salomon threats and was wondering if I need to do anything different for waxing them the first time, or do I just wax them like any other time?

Factory Wax bro... you won't need to wax them until you ride them at least a full day.

I would dull the edges from the contact points around the tips and tails though.

wax them, get some toko base prep, do 2 or 3 cycles of that then put on what ever wax you want and dont scrape till you go ski

do NOT use base prep. all it does is dry out your bases. take some swix yellow wax and wax/scrape 3-5 times. then wax for the temp on the first day

the base prep sucks the dirt and other crap that gets into the pores of the base durring shiping, dosnt dry the bases if you put the s3(color of your chioce) on imediatly after using base prep. the guy who taught me to tune skis is a world cup race ski tech, and this is what he told me to do to any new ski, excluding speed skis

well the guy who taught me is darron rahlves' personal ski tech and he told me to never use any type of base prep

Why the fuck would you want to ruin your edges by dulling them with a file?
What I do is get a wire brush (the kind that are made for skis, duh) and use that on the bases to open up the pores so is soaks up the wax better. Wax with all purpose wax then scrape as much off as you can. Brush remaining wax off and polish with this weird material I have that's supposed to make your bases super fast. I don't know why you get all the wax off but that's what I did when I raced so I still do it. I think it's cause your bases have soaked up the wax and even though the wax is off your bases are faster.

well that dude is wrong. base prep isnt meant to be used by itself. it isnt meant to be a coat of wax either.  its supposed to get deep down into your pores so that the wax you put on top of it sticks better. first thing you should do is get a razor and drag it down your bases. obviously not sharp point going forward but by pulling the dull end towards you. to cut off all the microhairs that slow you down. then take a copper brush and brush your bases down a lot. this will open up your pores then brush it down with a scotchbrite pad. then after like a good hot wipe you should put down like 2-3 base prep layers followed by some very warm wax usually a yellow of some sort. then after like 2-3 yellow coats get the coldest wax you can find like ch4 or something else blue. then do like 2-3 coats of the blue. then after that youre pretty much done just add a coat of yellow and don't scrape for a storage wax. then when the season starts scrape off the yellow and put on the appropriate wax.

nah, factory wax is fine, after a few days of riding then just wax/scrape, no need for base prep or anything fancy, for park only you might want to dull your edges

that was odd, it didnt let me finish. any way every tech has their own preferences, and bob told me to hot scrape the base prep then hot box with s3 yellow

its a personal prefence, when i buy new skis, i put a fresh wax on em, but to agree, do dull the edges

I you implying a hot wipe as a pass over the skis with an iron. Because if you are you should never expose your skis to the iron without wax on them. (you crayon in the wax before the iron ever touches the ski). Everything else is exactly what I would do though

hot wipe meaning you put on a layer of your warmest wax spread it all out then go over it again with a rag behind the iron.
