[REC] is definetly up there.
And it has probably been said before, but "Mirrors". It's a bit more horror/thriller'ish, but fuck fuck fuck was it creepy, really recommend that one to all of you that havent already seen it.
oh, and I recall "The Skeleton Key" being quite creepy too, gotta recommend that one as well.
the new halloween that rob zombie directed is pretty fucked up
13 ghosts is also pretty scary
but i have to say when i was little candyman scared the shit out of me, i couldn't look in a mirrow for like 2 weeks
Oh man, I LOVE scary movies.
Before it was announced that it was all fake, and all the hype went down of how stupid it was, I saw the blair witch project when it first came out in the theater, and when it first came out, it was terrifying.
how can you call SAW a stupid movie?
probably one of the most intricate well thought out movie series ever.
Back in like 3rd grade, my gf's and I used to go into the bathroom, shut off all the lights, and light a candle, then read from Stephen King's "IT"...
Then, when we got a little older, like 5th grade, we'd go into the cemetary late at night and do the ouija board...wtf were we thinking?!
I ran so fast out of the cemetary once and almost fell in an open plot.
*cemetery
my buddy taped george w. bushes first speech for the republican national convention nomination and i accidentally watched it.
I had nightmares we went to war and that millions of innocent people died :(
The script that eventually became Saw II was in fact a completely different film. It was renamed Saw II and minor changes were made to incorporate Jigsaw's shenanigans. It was a shameless and hollow attempt to cash in on the Saw name.
What you call "in depth and creative", I call contrived and convoluted. Saw II and III feature the most horribly implausible "twists" in the form of deux ex machina that are nothing more than blatant excuses to make another sequel. The Saw films are churned out simply because they guarantee profit year after year, regardless of their quality.
They are unquestioningly unscary. No degree of suspense or tension is ever built. The only question ever raised is "How many cool ways can people die?" They're torture porn. We're never meant to feel any empathy or fear for the characters...we're suppose to cheer they're deaths.
I can't imagine people liking these movies. They're not even particularly that gory relative to a lot of other films.
Oh yeah....the editing is terrrrrible. It's like watching a 90 minute version of the NIN video for "Closer".
A lot of people have said The Shining was really scary and I rented it and just finished it and it wasn't that scary, but I'm kinda scared to go into the bathroom.
