By the time someone puts it on and you buy it, it's cheaper to just buy a whole new derailleur. Good luck, what kind of bike was it on?

You generally can't buy specific parts for derailleurs, it's kind of an all or nothing type of deal (except maybe XO, but I'm not sure). Check and see if a bike shop has anything lying around, but the cage is what breaks 90% of the time so they most likely won't have anything. Also check and make sure your hanger isn't bent, because that usually happens when you damamge a derailleur.

haha.. i thought shadow was supposed to prevent the derailleur from getting caught on stuff.
anyways i think you might just need a brand new derailleur, i'd go with last years xt if you can find it. it's super cheap and i have a brand new one in a box if you want me to sell it to you. i'd sell for $30 shipped. pm me if you want it.

yes you can buy specific parts for derailleurs...i have to do it all the time when i beat the shit out of mine. any shop that sells derailleurs should also sell the parts for it.

I would go check out your local bike shop, they very well might have some broken ones laying around to part out. Other then that they can probably order you the part but it might not be cheap.... Good luck dude, and next time just single speed it, gears are overrated!

first of all andrew it's a full suspension, so you can't single speed it due to chain growth. the next issue then becomes what you can do about the cage.
I've worked at bike shops for going on 7 years, and i even used to work at the one andrew^ works at. they don't sell just the cage for that derailure. you're going to need a new one for sure. I would however keep the old one and use it for spare parts, so you can rubuild the new one when it breaks.
Don't get shit online though as none of that stuff is warrantied, and also it's usually a "second" which means it's not top quality. although online stuff has sexy prices, most shops will price match. so there's no reason not to go to a shop. the one you got your bike from will most likely give you a hook up anyways.

Fair enough about the full suspension thing, really just wasn't paying attention.... but listen to this kid, he knows more about bikes than god.

But retrospect to my original post even though its of no value to this thread would using one of those spring loaded single speed tensioners allow for enough chain growth on a full suspension?

it almost would, but I have never seen a spring loaded chain tensioner work for more than an hour or two on ahard tail. I've also ran just about every chain tensioner at some point, and they just aren't strong enough. they also work best with the chain ran as short as possible which leaves very little room for the required chain growth, hence of it was long enough, they'd just fall off. epsecially on a long travel bike.

It could work but it doesn't even make sense to have a full suspension ss. You would loose too much power with the pedal bob. The only reason I could see making a full suspension a ss is if it was a downhill bike but even then you need to have a few gears to shift into for slightly less steep/flat sections. Or if you had a suspension with remote lockout allowing you to lock it out for uphills and then let it loose for downhills.

yeah the cage is what you're talking about, the hanger is the metal piece that connects the derailleur to the frame. what type do you have? i might have an extra one lying around
