oh c´mon... sure he´d save money by holding it at a place that has snow? what makes la attractive? lots of lots lof lots of people who never really heard about freeskiing. think of a good live act and there will be more and more viewers.. we live in a world that longs to events like that. do you really think some big air event will be shown on tv? but a event in la has a chance to get that. just compare the 5or10thousand in aspen seeing an oakley banner to the crowd in la seeing it. they get their money back if they support an event like that.
im pretty sure if jp went and set up a tent or booth for alpine incentives he would make a ton of money at this event in la. so with that under control i think this would be a sick place to do things. i mean do you guys remember that urban picture where some dude was sliding a rail onto the beach? this would be like that only like 500 times sicker. red bull would be paying for it along with a ton of other sponsors it would be sick as hell. not to mention all the people that see this shit and then decide they want to start skiing and they start pouring their money into this sport. i dont see anything wrong with this.
Well i hope he can figure out the tow-in/speed problem, if the jump size is comparitive to other JOI jumps then I think this will be insane. If they build a little 50ft kicker and skiers huck sw 10s landing barely past the knuckle then idk...
Jon, please have another stop in atlanta. There would be tons of places to jump or rails. Therese never anything here and people would go. Think about a sick jump on stone mountain... that would be sick.
but i hope it would be a bit bigger for the jump and by a bit i mean A LOT bigger. although its small it'll still get you going like 30 mph. i don't know how fast skiers need to go to hit jumps like that but yeah
straight up stupid idea. thanks for making me dumber jon olsson. that shit would cost millions of dollars to do. which if your sponsor have how about they give it back to us in the for of discounts off of their over priced product.
Let's say that 10,000 people see an Oakley banner, and Jon repping their goggles. I'll be generous and say that if even 1000 of those people decided that freeskiing was cool, the spreading out effect of what they buy will be a drop in the bucket across the ski industry. And of that money, how much is going to go to product development to make new "innovative" gear to make skiing better? When extra money is made, it is simply a larger profit for them. They aren't going to give that back to you, and to argue otherwise is simply naive.
Exposure in LA means absolutely nothing to my skiing. Exposure in general does not improve the state of skiing. Events like JOI push the borders of what is possible on skis, but the only real thing that comes out of them is advertising of products. They don't let the public get their shred on, (but the Open that Jon and Simon put on last year was a good event in this respect) and will waste a ton of resources making snow in LA that might not be wasted in someplace with a colder climate that (gosh!) actually receives snow. Even if it is the sponsors paying, then at least they save some money, which they could decide (but aren't obligated) to give to Alpine Initiatives.
being a person with on3p in their signature like crazy youre saying that if on3p decided to continue production that if more people bought their skis they wouldnt put that money into more equipment but instead in their pockets?
this could potentially be sweet. i feel like jon is definitely a perfectionist when it comes to building jumps that are huge and safe, so he would probably do a better job than icer air, or else he wouldnt do it. yeah its kind of extravagant and costly, but i think the exposure would be huge. think about how many people in LA are rich and looking for something new and cool. good for the sport.
i don´t think that the money is going back to us customers. i just wanted to point out that the sponsors will get their investment back. freestlye.ch is a pretty cool example for how an event should be. location´s awesome, huge crowd every year, good partys.. so how ccan this be topped? (is topped an english word? =) i don´t know, hope u understand it) maybe how can this get even better? make it bigger. put it to the states. make sure that the jump is save and just the opposite of fucking icer air. jon olsson stands for good jumps and his way of life fits perfect for la. so whatever.. and stop saying that the sponsors should use the money for making their products cheaper. but they don´t "waste" money on that. i think this is probably the coolest way of advertising. i´d rather see stuff like that than some random tv spot.
so.. i did some other stuff meanwhile i wrote this but i still hope some people can understand what i wrote down.
