I had shin splins three years ago and they hurt like a bitch skiing. Especially if you nuckle, overshoot or land bably jumps. (anything that impacts your shins more than usual) but it's dooable if you have balls.
I'm kinda repeating but do your boots up really tight. Get a booster. It'll hurt at the time but it hurts less than having them loose skiing. Try and walk around in them for 30mins a day for like a week before you go skiing to 'desensitise' your shins. Also if you want you can run a rolling pin even a ski pole but it hurts more (anything round) at a moderate rate down your shins to also desentitise your shins. It also I think creates a little bit of swelling I think which can cushion the shin I think.
I'm not sure if you'll get it I got like little lumps of like swelling and I think it helps to push them out or something.
It would probably help if you were able to, to get some of those padded tongues for your boots to cushion a little more.
If you do whatever you can to try and make it better before the season. Good luck hope it gets better before you ski.
