Hematoma Removal

Has anyone ever gotten a hematoma removed? I have a decent sized one, about the size of an A/B cup boob, on my right hip that hasn't gone away. It's been there for 3 years and hasn't gone down in size at all.

So since my doctors kept telling me it would go away and don't worry about it, it's started to calcified and now I have to get it removed. Part of it will be liposuction and part will be cut out.

Has anyone ever had this happen? I haven't been able to talk to my doctor about recovery and what I can and can't do, but my mom has. She told my mom that I'll be bed ridden for a week (at least my post count will go up?), but she also said it will take 6 months to fully heal and NO SKIING! My surgery is semi-scheduled for mid December, so no skiing? Right at the beginning of ski season? What the fuck! I don't think this is right, especially if I'm wearing padded shorts.

Oh, and I know, listen to your doctor it will help in the long run. I'm going to try my best. But cmon, no skiing!? This doesn't seem right and I can't talk to my doctor about it for another month, so please help me 13 year old doctors of newschoolers!

I bet you could ski some groomers or something. I think they're just trying to get you not to fall on the spot.

i think you're probably ok.
if they dont have to cut the bone, take like 3 weeks off to heal

I was never told to "massage it", just that it would dissolve and go away on it's own. And the doctor I went to for a second opinion sent me to the plastic surgeon to get it removed, and that's the point I'm at now.

i had a crazy surgery a few years ago
that if i were to fall i could get really damaged
my doctor told me to just take it easy and he didn't really worry about it because he knew i was a pretty good skier and that i didn't really fall much
so my advice would be to talk to some doctor if not the same one another one and tell them what level skier you are and see what they say
my guess is that if you are a really good skier and you don't fall you should be fine.... i would just take it easy

i do sometimes and i used to a lot a long time ago but my bother got really hurt so i got the shit scared out of me

most of the time when i'm in the park i'm taking pictures

I dunno, its pretty much up to you. But I would probably take a few months off because if you do go skiing you will more than likely fall and hit it again. No matter what, you WILL wreck skiing sooner or later. You are just going to have to play it by ear and how the injury looks like. I mean, if you have had the injury for 3+ years and its not going away, thats not looking good in my opinion, at all.

Yea taking some time off skiing sucks, but you are still young right? Like 18? Shit, try being my age (25) and entering the 'real' world, Ill be lucky if I get like two weeks in this season when Im used to like two months at least. I Got a different job and work like all the damn time, good money, but progressing in skiing is probably going to slow down for me as I get older which blows. Being a ski bum doesnt pay :(

I would definitely play it safe with your body because you don't want injuries to keep haunting you through life.

I'm really curious as to what this thing looks like. Can you see it at all from the surface? Is it in a place where it would be appropriate for a pic? Haha. I realize that this is really creepy.

i'd imagine part of the whole "no skiing" deal also has to do with letting it heal. activities like skiing can make the wound stretch out (or break open, which has happened to me), so you end up with a way bigger scar than had you not done whatever (ex. skiing). you should probably follow what your doctor says, or reschedule for after winter.

Reschedule for after winter or make a deal with your parents that if they don't let you ski during the winter they have to ship you down to chile or argentina just to make up for it.

ive had one of these before.. they are very strange
mine took close to 2 years to completely disappear
but id postpone it until like march at least, so you can recover over spring/summer/fall
