New to Skiing

Hey guys

im new to skiing this yearand  need some help.

im looking at  getting myself a decent starting setup of boots, bindings, andskis

i obviously want to get into a bit of the freestyle part of it too.

ive done a bit of research and i think im looking at a ski between 165-172? and a boot size 27/7.5.

im bout 5'7/5'8, 145pounds.


any help or feedback would be much apreciated

172 sounds about right to me. as for the boots id go see someone who knows what theyre doing like a boot fitter

I agree with size being pretty right, as for a boot go to a store that has nice selection and certified boot fitter.  Make sure you tell the boot fitter what you'll be sking and doing and try on lots of boots. As for skis maybe look at something like all mountain/park like Armada ar6, Line Chronic,K2 extreme. Plus don't leave out the core companies like Boone,4frnt,Amplid,Moment,etc....They are making good skis also.

maybe look at line invaders. they would be a great starting ski. where will u be skiing tho?

ill go check out the ski shop in town to get fitted.

im going to be skiing mostly at Silver Star and Big White in the okanagan

if you are completely new to skiing then i would look at a relatively basic ski for your first pair. Don't go symmetrical or centre mount. In my opinion it is better to learn to ski mounted a bit back and then go symmetrical later. I would look at a mid range park/ all mountain ski. Armada El Reys in a 171 might be good for you. Bare in mind that it is easier to learn on a shorter ski. Other similar possibilitys might be K2 Extremes (or Public Enemys for cheap), Line Chronics maybe. I would try to spend like $300 on a first ski. Then when you know what area of skiing really stokes you, invest in a sick pair. You might end up loving BC, Park, Racing anything. Get an all round twin tip mount like -3 to -5 and go from there.

As for boots, go to a boot fitter. Don't get the most expensive stiff boots or park boots. Get something all purpose.

My advice is.. wait until you know what you love to ski before going in to really specialist gear.

go for a basic ski more on the price point side of things. 171 should be fine for you.
almost every company has a ski like this so you will have a good amount of choices. I'll give you a few...

there are so many skis you will be happy with so just do some research and choose what fits you best. most likely you will be happy with what you get so Good Luck!

forgot about these.
also for boots if you have a narrower foot full tilt is definitely a great option
for a medium - wide foot check out dalbello
i have also heard great things about salomon boots (the spk pro model in particular)

i wouldn't get invaders unless you will ski ONLY park.. they are not great all mountain and definitely not a good ski to learn to ski anything but park on.. (however if you will ski just park and your park is small hits and rails then invaders are the best ski you can buy)

i really like the look of those 4frnt and line skis

its not that i havent skied before, i used to snowboard. i pretty much live up the hill but i have been skiing more and more and ive just decided to make the full on transition to skiing and i know it makes a world of a difference if you have proper gear going.

and im not also sure about the mounting (as someone mentioned above), what are the different options  for mounting the bindings?

Theres usually a suggested mounting point, ask the guys at the shop.

If not, -2 from center is good I think....?

if you get the invaders or any other symmetrical ski (same width at the tip and tail) then center mount the bindings....for non-symmetrical skis i would go either -1 or -2 back from center, but as said above most skis have a suggested mounting point printed on them.

and is it bad if the skis have been drilled once already? or is it not a big deal?

i heard that getting them filled jepordizes flexibility?

first off if its your first pair of skis just go to your local shop and they should have used setups with already mounted skis for cheap, they will probaly tune em and size the boots for you. if your just starting out dont put too much money down you wont feel the diffrence in skis till you actually get good. i would deffinatly reccomend the k2 pe's if you can find them really easy to learn on and rip park and all mountain. seriously dont buy a six hundred dolar park ski till you can actually rip on them.
