Hi all --
For those of you who are into the backcountry scene in Utah, if you've taken your level 1 avalanche class then you have probably heard Bruce Tremper and others at Exum classes &
such talk about the ABS pack that has been available in Europe for a
few years now. For those who don't know what it is, it has some co2 cartridges that you can fire if you're
caught in an avalanche, and it inflates a large volume airbag on the
pack. It effectively makes you a larger object, so you settle near the
top of avie debris (like larger potato chips in a bag when you shake
it). It has had a very high survival rate so far. There is now a US
distributor with the rights to sell it in the US.
The guys from GEAR.com (me, powstash, Jason Mitchell) are going to have
one of the packs at the OSH theater (the building just south of the
union building) on the campus of the University of Utah for a focus
group at 6:30pm tomorrow night (that's Friday 10/3). Come check it out
& learn about it --- honestly it will be my first time seeing it in
person so I am very curious too. I wonder if it's everything it's
cracked up to be. Should be interesting.
This will be right before the Poor Boyz Production premiere, so you can stick around for the show too if you like.
Cheers,
Brig
