wow fat fingers....anyway ive been looking at this audi a8 on craigslist and im thinking about buying it.  i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or experience with a8's like this one.

my only experience with A8's is when one of my friends almost bought one with a very similar deal, the only problems were some minor motor head cracks or something, it was like a 2,000 fix but other than that the car was pretty solid. the only thing i see with them is that they are a pretty big car.

you can also have a lot more fun with cars that are cheaper, less HP but less heavy too

anyway if you're really into that car, buy it, bu be sure you can pay not only the car, but gas, maintenance, insurance.... etc

Cracks in your engine block are by no means "minor" fixes.  You could buy a new block or new engine for that matter for cheaper than the repairs.  But Audis are fun.  V8s arent that bad on gas, considering its also a german car, it probably has higher fuel standards.

dude, wouldn't you rather have an A4? i think A4s are the best looking audi, better on gas than an A8, cheaper, and probably more fun to drive. 300 hp would of course be fun on the highway, but A4s are a blast to drive around town, and the perfect mountain car. save the money and go for an A4

i have rode in and driven an a4 and they are just way too small for me.  i have to sit sideways to fit in the back seat.  I have also driven the a6 and a8 and like both of them.   I have been looking for an a6 but when i saw this a8, 5000 just seems like too good of a deal to pass up.  plus the a8 is heavy and AWD so it is great in the snow.

My dad has an A8, pretty new car. Its really really nice, Audi's are expensive to fix, so if you have money for the parts and such its totally worth it. I also have an audi, but an A6, with the same engine as the a8. their great cars

theyre really good cars.  big, roomy, and there fucking tanks.  but i have to warn you when shit goes wrong be ready to pay out of your ass for expenses.  ive known some people with audis that have never had a problem but others they take it into the shop every couple of months.  its sure a sick car and i bet youll feel like a baller driving it

i wouldn't buy anything with over 70,000 miles. your in high school (?). you should jut buy a car with low miles that will be reliable even if it is just a civic.

ok so my longest friends mom owns vermont eye laser and he has all the sickest shit immaginable, liek a huge tramp next to a halfpipe in his basement...  but thats besides the point

i have seen the a8 from new to now a few years old and they tend to start to have problems at 60 000 miles.  if the car has alot of miles its going to hav alot of problems, not only that but the idside will fall appart. thats jsut what i have seen.

on the pluss side this audi lowers and raises the body of the car to suit the terrain, has awd and a v8. its baller as fuck. it iskindas big tho so u cant do toomuch rallying. i would test drive it and then take it to your most trusted car repair man... not a audi dealer or a big place and ask him to do a full inspection and do a engin reading to see what all the problems are.... then u can get a estimate of the cost to fix it.

go for it if u want to spend money on repair. it seems liek there deff will be shit wrong.

id say go for a new a4. they are soo nice there youngest son just got one and its mad pimp. its a lil wider on the inside... if not get a wrx. thats ur best most reliable bang for ur buck.

my dad has gone through two audis....they are very very nice cars, but like everyone else has said, the maintenance on them is ridiculous. so be prepared to pay a lot more than what you buy it for.. apparently if you want longevity in a german made luxury car mercedes is the way to go. my step mom has one as old as my dad's audi and has never had a problem, and i have heard similar stories so i don't think its just in my family's case...

Word, I got my 2003 civic for 7 g's, already modded to my likings.

Intake, exhaust, chip, pulley's, plugs,  mags, tires, subs, speakers, dvd, tints, hid's, smoked lights, carbon fiber, TOTALLY riced, but

a) the ladies love it for whatever reason
b) havn't had a single problem, and I've just pushed the odometer up over 100, 000 miles.
c) it buys you into a community, there's a huge meet every thursday near me which is totally dope

It was either this car or an A4, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Civics are cheap on gas, cheap maintenance, high resale. Audi's are the opposite, but an Audi will definetly be in my driveway the day I'm done school.

Anyways, go testdrive your A8. I was about to buy a luxury car, until I testdrove it and realised that the older car just didn't feel as tight as I'd wanted.

i own an audi allroad. brother has an allroad, dad has an s8.
the only way to own an audi is to have either a warranty, or an extended factory warranty. my brother's allroad breaks all the time. be preparedddd.
other than that, super nice car, a8's are hugeee roomy fast and pretty!

haha

you cant just put a 5 speed short shift...  its an automatic transmission

he'll have to change the whole transmission and put a new one in it, which might not even be affordable for him and it's totally useless to change a car from automatic to standard

because of maintenence. you get an audi if you dont worry about money. most people either have their audi for a few months or a long time. i have an a6 6 speed bi turbo. its fuckin killer, i rarely drive it like it should be driven, but when i do its amazing.

the a8 is not a nimble car. nor was my a6, then i got it lowered and new suspension and it's the most versitle handling car out there. short turns to long radius turns. thing is unreal.

between the last owner and i there are 11,000k in maintenece records in the last 3 years.
-turbos
-suspension
-transmission/short shifter/clutch
-control arms
-cv joints
-water pump/timing belt

no doubt i would have alot more money if i didnt have an audi

also if you do some research on that car you can almost count on the tiptronic transmission of 98-99 a8 to fail.

don't get it man, a have a 99 a4......great car but anoavoidable things with time are starting to get really costly...ball bearings, control arms, possible cracked cylinders.

especially an a8 which is much less reliable because of the power, id say go with a well maintained bmw xi, you'll be set.
