Yeah, wide skiis make the rest of your skiing experience less fun (unless your in powder). It takes longer to get from edge to edge when the ski is wide underfoot which reduces your performance. Get a skii with a good spring in the tip and tail (springy and soft are two different things, look for how quickly it rebounds after you flex it not how soft the flex is). The most important thing to pop is you, get your quads and calves strong and extend straight up . shape the hit hit a bitt differently (more concave with a noted lip) and then you'll get huge pop.
