Is it wrong to binge drink?

I am a 3rd year university student who loves to party. the only time i ever drink is on weekends when i make it my mission to get absolutely trashed and have a rippin' good time. i NEVER casually drink, and I am in fact quite opposed to the idea of "casual drinking". My parents both are casual drinkers and will have a few glasses of wine or a few beers a night, but I fail to see the purpose of this. I have never had the desire to have a "casual" drink after class. I know many that do but i could never quire wrap my head around the idea of "casual" drinking. there are times when i will have a drink because of social circumstances, for example at christmas or thanksgiving when my father opens up a nice bottle of champagne or wine, otherwise i fail to see the purpose of having a few drinks unless you plan on getting absolutely obliterated....
so therein lies the question.... is this wrong? Am I a bad person looking down upon "casual" drinking, while wholeheartedly embracing the beautiful act of binge drinking?

This could very easily transfer over to someone who is a casual drinker. When you are out to dinner, and you are asked to choose what you'd like to drink, you take certain things into consideration. What am I eating? Steak - then I'd like to have a nice amber colored hoppy beer, not too fruity tasting. Bass? Then a nice glass of Chardonnay will do just right. Your mood also plays a great role. If you're out to dinner with your parents, you're in a different setting than that of when you're with friends. So you're going to choose a drink that doesn't effect you too quickly. When you're with friends, you're probably going to pick something that's fun and will set the mood for the evening. If you're in a good mood, you might take a Ketel One martini, whereas if you're grumpy you might just choose the house vodka. When you're with friends and say, going to watch TV or a movie - you don't want to sip on PBR all night, cause it tastes like shit. You're going to choose a better beer, something with more flavor. I'm kind of just rambling here - but I will end with saying that you should just end your binge drinking right now. Its incredibly unattractive to come across a 22 year old man (are you sure yet? hah!) who has no self control - picture yourself sitting at a bar sippin' a nice Magic Hat poured out of a bottle into a glass - now picture yourself shot gunning a beer. Which is hotter? =P
Seriously - change. I believe its about growing up. No offense.

I dont know about you but I love the taste of beer, having a beer or two after work is an enjoyable experience, helps me unwind and relax.
Nothing against binge drinking, it's just hard on your body.

i used to drink like 3 times a week and in canda i'd drink and take drugs at least that much, but my liver has said fuck off, no more, so i'm down to just drinking maybe once a week and have to quit entirely soon. gutted. I love drinking, it's a big part of my life.

i feel like i'm having the same problem. but its almost affecting my health in a terrible way haha. its my 3rd year in college and i drink thursday friday saturday. i used to drink during the week last year, but this year i'm almost glad on sunday i'm not drinking. now its not affecting my grades at all, or my relationships with my friends and girlfriend. actually, she drinks with me friday and saturday (we do hang out a lot too aside from this haha).
but i'm at the point where it might take me 8 beers to get drunk, but by the next morning, i'll have 5-10 beers left from my 30. at 20 beers a night, 150lbs, its not too healthy. i don't usually do anything retarded, i never fight anyone, and usually i'm just happy and blast music (last friday we stayed up to 7am, just me my girlfriend and roommate, blaring music haha. claim).
however, i can also sit down with a bud diesel and enjoy a burger. i can also have a keystone with any meal (i've grown to love that shit, fuck off). i never drink to forget anything, and always have a good time. i'm just wondering whats going to happen in grad school when i have to write research papers and teach to get my phd.
i don't like wine, and hard liquor spells death for me, but i feel like i'm in a pretty good boat. so maybe i'm just saying that sundays i'm retardedly hungover and i'm just livin the dream, or maybe i'm saying i need to stop drinking to enjoy the finer things in life, but if i can do both, i guess i might as well try to keep up a good diet and ball superbly outrageous.
and its not bad to go out and get shitfaced, as long as you're not fucking up yourself or others.

unless you went to a party school, then you simply dont understand. the party doesnt end after college if you dont want it to. we all go through it and some of us give in to the real world and lose our edge on life cause we think we cannot have anymore fun. I went through serious college withdraw for awhile after graduation and then i realized that i am still fuckin young and i am stil gonna live up all life has to offer i just have CHANGE my routine a little. i see alumni from my college ( umass) they tell me this EXACT same shit. they are still having their time of their lives after college because they allowed themselves too, however, many of your friends and even yourself will naturally stop the fun. Its all up to you. So in terms of "binge" drinkin you sound like you goto a small school, not a lot of kids drink there, hate being hungover, and want it to stop. But you have to look at things on a bigger spectrum and say to yourself what about kids who goto schools where 9 out 10 kids get wasted at least once a week>?? what the fuck are they gonna do after they graduate? Life is all about moderation - i drank about half the week in college - anymore and it just fucked up the week, any less and it wasnt enough. So say for example, you drink twice a week in college, then graduate and drop it all completely then that is not moderation. You go from 8 times a month to none is not moderating the situation leaving you unfulfilled in a sense. However, I am not saying DRINK AS much 8 times a month as you did in college either. Again, it all goes back to moderation. Good luck.

It's a common misconception that alcohol is not bad for you..
Turns out it is! A night of binge drinking does a LOT more damage than .1 of a gram of MDMA. I don't know if you guys have thought about this but your brain being soar from having no water and squished doesn't sound too good for you. I bet you if the government told us heroin was not addictive everyone would do it too.
Humans are dumb. Humans take something they hear and tell everyone they know about it. Nobody thinks for themselves anymore. They are dumbed down in school, taught what somebody elses beliefs of right or wrong. Do you guys remember that saying, don't believe what you hear?
Clearly not.

My first thought after reading the title was... Have you ever heard of a little midwest state called Wisconsin? It's built in the premise of binge drinking. haha. I had 2 buddies just last weekend get DUI's and one get tazered.
But after reading a bit, it was pretty clear. You're in college, you're young. Drinking is a novelty to you yet. You're parents aren't around to scold you for it. I did it to, as I'm sure most of the college aged people on here. But you'll definitely reach a point where waking up hung over as fuck just isn't worth the partying the night before. Usually it happens sometime after you turn 21 and drinking doesn't seem so rebellious. Social drinking isn't that bad of a thing. Going out with your buddies for wings and a beer is common.
Enjoy it while you can, while you can still afford it. But don't let it take you over. I'd say, every once in a while, make a deal with yourself that you won't drink for a week or two weeks or something. Just make sure it hasn't changed from being a good time, to becoming a problem. I have lost complete contact with one of my best friends from HS because he let drinking completely take him over. Last I heard, he's in mandatory 90 day rehab. No bueno.

sometimes when you want to enjoy a few nice beers or something i don't think thats bad at all. i don't get why you have to drink until you are completely wasted, i mean i do it multiples times a week but usually i feel dumb because i get too wasted and am embarrassed by myself and i feel like shit for the next day, whats the point? but my opinion is very skewed right now because i'm still hungover from last nights tirade.

Not alot of younger people do this but my grandparents like to have a small glass of scotch served neat or a full glass of port to act as a digestif... So there is an alternative use to hard liquor other than getting mind blowingly smashed.

I've found that after drinking every day, its actually harder to binge.
Let it be said that alcohol can be delicious. A good beer, or a tasty wine can be the perfect supplement to a meal. Likewise, having a shot of tequila on the beach in mexico can also add to that certain experience. I see no reason not to have alcohol if the situation is appropriate. But drinking alone, in your room... well thats something shameful. In closing, to everyone else chugging that vodka martini alone in their room reading this, CHEERS FUCKERS.

Actually if you are drinking everyday, it's easier.
No better time for a white russian than 11 am when you are about to sober up and be hungover. Then the day just gets progressively drunker.
Studies have shown drinking alone isn't bad for you.

Absolutely.
I can't comprehend people who drink tons of shit they don't like the taste of in order to feel like shit the next day.

if you think people drink beer only to get buzzed...pretty sad. there's more beer out there than keystone and coors...good beer tastes GOOD, and thats all there is to it.

its not good for you if your wondering. and i wouldnt suggest it. But i did it in highschool, and i guess im fine. its so easy to become a habit, all of a sudden you sit down on a weekend, and can think of nothing fun to do but get drunk. thats a bad place to be.

i dunno man, 6 weeks into summer, i woke up one morning and thought, "damn, my liver hurts". i took a week off. binge drink all you want, but consider taking it easy when your liver starts to ache.
