i had one and it wasn't great, i recommend maybe just one of those little HDV cameras like cannon or whatever.

vx2000. buy mine       https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/384756/          , definitely a better camera than the gl2 sony=dank thought i know that most high end 3 chips cameras can come down to how u use it and personal preference. Plus is it just me or do all gl2's develop heads issues. but dont get me wrong gl2 is definitely a damn good camera, I just think the vx is a superior camera...

Think neither is "superior" in a sense. GL2 is great for the film look, and the VX is great for the digi look. Obviously trying to get opposite effects with each camera is possible, but that would be going against the grain.

Maybe not superior, but the VX is a whole lot better in low light conditions.  If you're filming anything at night, or might be, go with the Sony.  The GL2 is not that great at night.

Also, the GL1 is not a piece of shit by any means. Sure now it's easy to say that you can do MUCH better because you can, but it's still a great camera that paved the way for all these newer models.  The picture is just as nice as with a GL2, and I would actually take my GL1 over a GL2  any day. 

I would recommend going with LJ's VX2000, that's a good price and a kick ass camera.

if your filming at night your going to need lights, no way around it, so just get some good ones.

The vx looks like shit in low light. You may be able to see what's going on a lot better, but that doesn't mean the image looks GOOD. In my opinion, both cameras look bad in low light. As I stated above, I like how the GL2 is grainier and noisier in low light because it looks more like film. Again, it all comes down to image preference.

GL2 is a really great "starter" cam. I still have mine and use it all the time. Sadly I don't have the budget for an HD cam. I'm still relatively happy with my GL2 years later (got it in 2004 and have used it heavily since). My heads are in need of a serious cleaning, although I think any camera VX or GL would need cleaning after the use I've put it through. You can get a GREAT image quality with the GL2 even though its been around forever. Sure its not HD and you can't shoot in 24p but if you know what your doing you can clearly get some sick shit.

This video was shot entirely on GL2 so you can get an idea of the picture quality (web compression aside):

well as far as 3 chip cameras go they are both pretty good, and there's a rating system called Lux in cameras so you might have a preference but the vx DOES have better low light capabilities

I was i nthe same spot u were, and i found that if you really want to go somewhere with filming dont get a gl2 or gl2, i bought a Panasonic AG-DVX100B it is a lot of money but so worth it in the long run, they are left as hell, and i cant wait to film with it this winter, plus if you are going to go into the business you want to show up with a nice camera, not a GL2, i have already starting making money buy filming some shit for people. it is well worth the money if you can spend the 3,000

unfortunately i am now extremely poor and im hoping this will help me out, im totally in love with the thing though it is great, i would highly suggest you save ur $$$ and buy one

Don't waist the money on a VX or GL2, I've been seeing a lot of good stuff come out of HV10,20,30's lately. Save some money and get an HV30 and get a nice stable tripod.

i personally feel that the buttons and the layout is better on the Vx you can change settings easily and the GL makes that a bitch to accomplish
