Easiest way to find out if it's legit, go to a bank and have them check it for you. Also, follow up with the police, possible the fbi. The fbi is always more helpful though.

Hey, I can check if it's legit for you. All I need to know is your credit card number, name on the card, expiration, and the three digit card security number.

There are fake checks. When you deposit the money, it goes into your bank account. but once the bank figures out that its fake and it bounces, they will take the money out of your account. These are used in scams, mostly on craiglist and ebay, where they mail you a check, tell you they sent the wrong amount and ask for more money back, or say that a friend sent the money and you need to send some back to him.
Sometimes the victims can end up going to prison cause of this, even theough they had no idea of the scam.
If no one claims a lottery ticket, the company is not going to out of its way to find the winner. they dont want people to win...(at least in this case...theres no publicity to encourage others to buy lottery tickets here.)

Thats wicked news! I got my own bit of good luck last week. I was contacted by the prince of sudan, and he's getting chased out of his country and needs a way to get his fortune out. Anyways I emailed him my bank info so that he could deposit $25,000,000 and I get to keep half! So pumped right now.

Why would a lottery company want to cover the tax on your lottery winnings? That just seems... dumb. I can't really speak to it as we don't tax gambling winnings up here.

I think before making an account on NS, people need to pass a basic spelling and vocabulary test.
One?
Really?

The amount your dad received for taxes is only 1.78% of the winnings. Tax on gambling or lottery winnings are WAY more than that. Unless he's receiving the tax reimbursement in payments, it doesn't make sense at all. Even besides that, they don't normally cover your taxes.

So this won time I bought a scratch off, and one $50. A man standing near buy, told me that he wanted to bye it off me. He said that he had been playing it four 6 years, and had never one. He wanted to prove two his wife that he could win. So I said sure, and he gave me a $50. Turns out I read it wrong, and the guy one ended up with $100. I got screwed.
