Sticky base

maybe it's the snow you're sliding on? or maybe you're storing them somewhere too warm?

Some skis are just not meant to go fast. My invaders go slowww on the mellower runs. My snowboarder buddies always pass me even when I straightline. Center mount, skinny, short, and noodly doesn't mean speed.

My K2 PE's are usually slower on the spring slushy snow, like really slow. So it could be the snow you were skiing on.

Maybe you need your bases p-texed, and maybe you need to use the right temperature wax.  That used to happen to me a lot.  I recommend that you get some rub-on wax too, just to put on your skis when they feel kinda slow.

just spray a can of WD40 on them, you'll be able to ski down grass.

but seriously, look into wax for your specific conditions, as suggested above. also, as said above, the bases may be damaged or dried out, so get that checked out too.

Many times man made snow has chemicals that will gum up your base, and slow your sticks down.

Also a good thing to do is to get your bases ground and then hot boxed, it will restore your bases to like new, and chances are they will hold wax much better than before.

Also try using a LF/CH temp specific wax from a reputable company like swix or gofast ect.

Thats the dumbest thing i have ever heard. Why would it matter what kind of ski you had if the bases on all skis are the same, or similar enough. Its not like ski companies are like well we will make this one slow cuz its a park ski " Hey steve throw the slowest base we got on that motha fucka" ya doesnt happen. Just properly tune your skis and make sure your edges are smooth they dont have to be sharp just smooth so deburr em. And u can use all temp wax and still be fast just make sure ur shop actually waxes skis with quality was and doesnt roll them over a roller that has had wax sitting in it for 2 years.

as for the chemicals and dirt you need to hot scrap your skis. So wax your skis and after you run the iron over them really slow scrap the wax off really fast but not to fast let the wax get gummy so it pulls dirt n such out of your base. U want to use a warm wax that will penetrate the base more because it is softer and will stay in a liquid state longer. You will see black shit come out of your base that is in the wax u know u r doing it right. But its all about penetration, because a ski base is actually like a sponge and has pores that dirt can get in thats why wax seels them up when u normally wax.

Very well put, do a hot scrape with a soft deep pennatrating wax like a base prep for better results. Then follow it up with multiple layers of a CH or LF wax.

be aware that LF stands for low flouro which means the wax has the chemical flourine which is a water repelant. So that being said if you live in a climate where the snow has high amounts of water this is good and will make you haul balls, but if you live in colorado where the snow can be very cold and dry low flouro isnt going to give you that much of an advantage look into other high end waxes with no flourine such as pearls microcrystaline wax which is super hella fast. Though you would think since all snow is essentially water that you could never go wrong with flourine but ski wax is a water repelent anyways so its kindof over kill. Racers use low flouro and even high flouro wax because race coures are injected with water so the water content on the course is higher than the rest of the mountain. Wax is a very technical thing that you can spend years learning about which i have and for you everyday skier whether park or all mountain regular wax will be just fine and u will still be fast. Take your skis to any good shop (not christies or ski n golf or other commercial places that use realy cheap wax) and u will be just fine. I work at a ski shop so i have the time to analyze snow quality and water content aswell as on the mountain temp before i wax my skis, i also have access to almost every kind of wax for every condition. I almost gaurentee you your skis will never be as fast as mine because i basically put a race tune on my skis everysingle time i go skiing because i have the resources aka hotbox stone grind ceramic and diamond edge polishing toold ect...

Why would you get your sticks ground b4 each use? You are just sucking all of the wax outta the base that you have built up in it.

um no cuz i re-wax with frsh wax in a hot box o the wax in my skis are always fresh just like my style

Haha that is just laughable. So cheesy dude! Nice posts above though, that is really useful and interesting information about how different waxes are needed in areas with different moisture content in the snow. i will have to check out the Purl microcrystaline shit you were talking about.
