A COLDER AND MORE ENERGETIC PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL AFFECT UTAH AND SURROUNDING STATES THIS WEEKEND. MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED BY SUNDAY. WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION COULD DEVELOP ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE STATE THIS WEEKEND...WITH LESSER AREAL COVERAGE FOR THE NORTHERN SECTION OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING. SNOW LEVELS WILL LOWER SIGNIFICANTLY BEGINNING SATURDAY...WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWS LIKELY AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY.

NEW SNOW AMOUNTS OF UP TO 12 INCHES ARE EXPECTED BY LATE SUNDAY ABOVE THE 8500 FOOT LEVEL WITH 18 TO 24 INCHES ABOVE ABOUT 9500 FEET. SEVERAL INCHES OF NEW SNOW ARE POSSIBLE DOWN TO 7000 FEET ON SUNDAY.

this is great for the short term, but VERY BAD for the midwinter snowpack. This snow is going to rot, turn into depth hoar (snow crystal type), and become a persistent weak layer in the months to come. just keep this in the back of your mind when you hit the mountains this winter.

but hey, at least the rail sliding will be good this week!

Word, just went up. Snow level needs to lower!!! If it lowers then I think we could be having quite a good time playing in the snow the next couple of days, but as of right now you have to go to top of Gaurdsmans to find any. SNOW DANCES EVERYONE! WE NEED IT LOWER!

obviously we all check the mountain weather and its going to snow this week... hopefulyl a lot.


BUT we are also expecting snow in the city this weekend. Hopefully enough to hit rails.

I hate to say it but I don't think slc is gonna get very much snow at all. There isn't even a winter storm warning posted yet, which means mountains get 6-12 and its not even gonna happen. But maybe itll come together. Head north to Bozeman and ski, thats where im heading.
