Is anyone planning on going from Ottawa to Whistler in early May? I want to drive out there, but I don't really want to drive alone.. if there's anyone in Montreal, Toronto, or well, anywhere in Ontario, let me know and maybe we can drive out together and split gas...

It takes 5 days to drive there.. so umm.. you could drive out with me, stay there for a couple days, then take the bus home (only $109!).

Yeah, I did it in October from Toronto in 5 days including stopping in Banff for a full day. It's a pretty fun drive but having someone else there definately would have taken away some of the boredom

Yeah I would love to drive, but it's going to be pretty boring for the 15 hours or so that I'm stuck in the prairies..
I'm thinking of taking the bus instead now though.. it'll only be $319 return from Ottawa to Whistler... pretty damn good deal really...
Has anyone taken the bus from here to there?

Well Matt I think the real question is will you need your car when you're in Whistler?. I quickly realized that I didn't need my car and it's sat here in the staff housing parking lot for the last 5 months. I'm going back to Toronto in May and I'm driving back just to bring my car back. The drive out isn't really that bad as long as you have lots of cd's :)
Plus, if you don't bring your car you can take the insurance off which will save you lots of cash.

i could drive out there with you and take a plane home...keep that in mind. Though, i won;t be able to meet you later unless i get to take my 35 days off in August...

Yeah I checked on bus prices, and it costs $109 to go from Ottawa to Vancouver... how crazy is that? I'm assuming it wouldn't be much, if any, more to go to Whistler... go to www.greyhound.com to find out for yourself!
The main reason I want to drive is because of the amount of stuff I'm bringing... it might be a huge pain in the ass to bring it all on the bus.. hmmmmm....

I'm driving home (from Whistler to the Barrie area) around the 21st of April, then coming right back out here (I have to be in Kamloops on May 1st). I can do the drive in 3.5 days...so if you want to car train it....you'll get here pretty quick.

3.5 Days is crazy. I think 4 days would be my shortest time. I drive back to Ontario on April 28th and I'm glad I can take my time, although driving through the praries isn't much fun at all.

this summer we did the drive from T. to Whistler in 3.5 days or so. Left T. at 6pm Thursday, got into Whistler at 5pm Sunday... and that was in a big slow van. plus an unexpected stop at the boarder that wasted a few hours.

yeah, just don't drive thru Northern Ontario....cross the border at Sault St. Marie, then take (I think it's HWY 2) right across to Alberta, then come back up into Canada. That saves about 1 day drive

When I moved out here to Whis, I took the bus and it was about a 3 day trip... Cheap as hell, and you prolly won't need your car once you get here anyway, expecially since parking is a pain in the ass!
The only thing is, the bus is really uncomfortable, and you go all day and all night... It's worth it to do once if you want to experience every mile from there to here. That's why I took the bus. But I've flown every time since. The best part of the trip was the drive from Vancouver to Whistler!

Matt, if you are looking for a way to pass time on the bus, start talking to the person next to you on the bus, pretend they are your best friend, and when they really start to get freaked out, come on to them. After about an hour or two sit next to a new person, and start all over. Continue process till you get to Whistler.
