Shred Goggles

has anyone on here used Shred goggles? i know they have been around for a while, and they are popular among racers, but how are they? no one really has them around here(bozeman mt.).

Shred also makes Ashbury goggles, which i think is a pretty rippin company, but i want to know how they preform.

i noticed they dont have vents in the lens, probably fine on sunny days, but what about dark wet dumping powder days or extreme cold days or hiking?

my friends dad is a rep or something for them and he uses them, never complained about them.

From what ive seen from their ads, and from talking to people who have seen them in person, they are a cheaper flat lense goggle that comes in bright colors. Ill stick to smith I think.

they are good goggles, look good, and they have a great field of vision, dont buy them from fuxi he has them over priced

im mostly wary of them becuase they dont have vents. they say they are anti-fog treated but so are all goggles. i sorta want Ashbury's but dont want to waste my money if they are going to fog on every powder day at bridger bowl.

they don fog up as long as you dont wipe the inside of the lens, and be sure to get the double lens, is this will burks who works at the general store

ive seen some kids rocking them at my mountain. ive never used them though, doesnt hurt to try i guess.

If this is the mindset of our industry nothing would progress, innovation would be no longer. IMO there always have to people the branch out and give things a go. I am not particularly saying this of shred, as it seems they have been around but we just have to keep moving forward.

But all that aside, the colors they have look sweet and "By: Ted Ligety" Olympic gold has to count for somthing, new 09 line has vents too

i used them a little bit, they're racer goggles, they're comfortable and don't fog but they're good because they're super durable for when you get hit in the face with gates, spend a little extra and use crowbars though, more bang for the buck especially as a freestyler

no, this is will beardslee who lurks at the bozeman skatepark.


i think im just going to stick with some airblaster goggs i found at a thrift store for 20 dollars. although i think Ashbury and Shred are sweet brands, image wise, im going to work with these. thanks for the insight though everybody!

ya alot of racers use them. they are really strong and the lens doesn't seem to break that easy but i would go with another brand. oakley/spy/dragon/smith/electric

just curious as to what makes a goggle a racer goggle, do they make you go faster? as a "freestyler", what makes crowbars better than the shred goggles? i'm not asking this from a skier perspective at all, just as a freestyler; you know, the group that over the past 30 years or so (maybe not so much now) have prided themselves on being different and not following what the ski industry dictates for them.

I know a couple people that use them and they love them. does it really matter that a lot of racers use them? a lot of racers use oakley A frames, does that mean you're going to stop wearing oakley?

for those that mentioned "stick with what is known to be good", do any of you ski on any of the following brands:
armada
line
bluehouse
moment
amplid
4frnt
etc...
well i know a couple of you do by reading your profiles.

i agree with what you say about shred being "racer goggs" and all, i mean if you like them then why the hell not buy them right. but whats your point on calling out those of us that said "stick to what works" and what we ski?? i didn't get it.

^^ because if we just sticked to what works, companies such as these would not be in existence. These companies saw a need for something completely different or an improvement on an existing product and they just did it, took a chance. We need to keep our minds open for new ideas/ways to look at things. Straight skis with one tip worked for a long time.....

^ totally agree dude. my point is you don't buy something just cus it's new and unkown, how do you know it won't end up being total shit? so even if it's something you've never seen before but you feel inclined to buy... you do your research and make sure what your buying covers your needs, at least that's what i did when i bought my 1st pair of lines... i knew they would work.

yea man i hear ya, before i buy something i research the shit out of it just to make sure it will do what i want it to, but like in every industry there has to be people willing to take the risk of something that no one knows anything about, which is tough and only a few make it through, but just as a whole industry the innovative mind set needs to be kept in order to progress

It sounds like we are on the same page

it's a racer goggle because a lot of racers use them, they're designed for racing, and they don't break or scratch when gates hit you making them preferred by most racers
i'm a racer, i've used shred goggles, i prefer crowbars, they're better quality lenses, more comfortable on my face and helmet, look cooler, and are customizable, that's why i choose oakley
i ski on moment, bluehouse, and line, i'm very against sticking with what is known, i just use what i like the best, which happens to be crowbars
ted ligety designed shred goggles for racing, that makes them racing goggles, just like specific uvex or poc goggles, you refer to those as racer goggles. i don't really understand where you're coming from here, are you mad?

i have tried them for a day. they kinda felt exactly like my dads 1980 scotts. everyone on my old race team has them and the lenses are strong but the anti fog and chrome shit on the lenses suck
