I know it's not till Thursday but I'm already gearing up for one of the best events of the year.

I don't care what your party affiliation but the fact is that Biden is so much more ready for this than Palin. It's going to be a disaster. So who's making popcorn and watching the spectacle with me?

Oh and feel free to start a big political argument here. I know someone will.

Ya I knew you were talking to pface but at first I thought you fucked up my name and people fuck it up all the time. And its not even my name. Speak and spell was from a dane cook stand up.

Ok. So, in the debate, the timing got a lot more even toward the end. But, if you watch it again, you'll notice that the first couple of questions were asked first to Biden, who responded...then Palin got a chance to rebut, and then Biden got a chance to respond to her rebuttal, and then it was "next question" ...this happened with the first two or three questions.

So, as many people like to say "she's dodging the questions and avoiding them"..that's not what she was doing, toward the beginning she was coming back and rebutting his response to her rebuttal.

They have him the last word in the first few questions, so she was coming back and arguing against them because she didn't get a chance to respond.  The entire debate she was playing "catch up"...I don't think she was AVOIDING anything

oh God. Matthews is such a loud mouth, and he can't speak without spitting.  He has such a strong desire to talk over everyone else that he just keeps getting louder and louder until he's spitting these bubbles of foam and drooling down his chin

I'm sorry, but I dont think a woman that believes that another woman shouldnt be able to have an abortion if she is rapped has any right to say she supports women's rights. And she shouldnt talk about equal rights if she doesnt believe it should be the church's choice to say if its a marriage or not.

Sure, its her right to have those opinions, but seriously, women's rights? Betty Frieden would have punched her in the face.

I don't even watch Hardball that much, but Matthews is amazing at post-debate commentary. He has an ability to instantly seize upon subtle but important points and address them directly. He's just really, really good at it, whether you like his normal pattern of interviewing people or not, and generally I'm not a big fan of him. I was really surprised after both debates by how easily he summed things up.

That was actually one of Biden's points that I thought made a lot of sense. Also, they adjust mortgage principals all the time when people are having trouble making payments on their house. It's at the banks discretion--he wants that decision to be left in the hands of the bankruptcy court though, and not the grubby lien holders.

Anyway, it would be for people who already have loans that they are defaulting on, not for people who have yet to even buy a house, such as yourself, obviously.

the idea of "government" (bankruptcy court) getting in and adjusting what people owe on houses.. scares the shit out of me.

my "im gonna go buy a house" was a quip that if the government is going to adjust principals then maybe i could buy one, and then pay less for it! woo!

really though, i would never do that, and i will not, buy a home until i am in the finacial situation as to be able to afford it and not be hinging on interest rates moving.  in other words, im not buying until i can afford a house with a locked in rate, non of this ARM BS.

Yeah.  Well, some people took a risk and got an ARM for whatever reason, and it didn't work out for them.  Some of these people deserve to lose their house and some deserve help.

That's something I could write an essay on though, and if you want to get into that we can take it to PM or another thread.

But, I would like to say, that there is a time and place for an ARM, and they can be useful and helpful if they're using the right way by investors that know what they're doing.

But yeah, if you're buying a home that you plan on living in for a long time, obviously the best way to go would be to get into a conforming 30-year fixed (15...whatever).  The problem was a lot of the subprime borrowers were given options of ARMs only.  They either didn't qualify for 30 year loans, or they were quoted rates of 12-15%.

but yeah, I got your point.

Honestly this whole subprime thing I could talk about for years.

Bankruptcy court probably is the better place for it to get adjusted. Currently it happens by the actual lender and usually isnt enough and people still lose their homes because the lender takes it.

Taking it to bankruptcy court though allows them to create a principal where the lender still gets the value of the house and the homeowner does not house. This is something a person would want to do as the absolute last possible resort because it hurts your credit like nothing else. These people wont be able to take out any line of credit over about 1000 for the following 7 years depending on the creditor.

People keep telling me to file bankruptcy until I inform them that I will be no longer eligible for financial aid. Its better to have horrible credit and owe if at some point you can fix it with out aid than to have bankruptcy on your record.

because I have about 30k in student loans (first and second year were $17,000 a piece after tuition/room and board) that are starting up in about 2 months and 9k in CC debt from last fall when I didn't get any financial aid and had to charge my tuition/books (it started out as less than $5,000 but it has accumulated $3,500+ in interest/over credit fees.

This wouldnt be horrible except I only could find a job that could sustain my living expenses like food, rent, car insurance. Which is why I have since moved to Minnesota for free rent/food so that I can find a job an essentially have every single dollar start going towards what I owe.

they dont cover federal loans from what i know, but they will private, and it was more or less for the 9500 cc debt cause its getting to the point where I wont be able to pay it back with out assistance.

If you declare bankruptcy on a private financial aid loan, you are no longer eligible for government assistance until its off your credit.

i for one dont know how any of you can stand palin after she says she doesnt beleive global warming is caused by man...
that right there says nothing will be done about the environment and there is such overwelming data supporting our impacts that i cant beleive people even give her a second look.
I mean look at the previous campaign ticket ...and the ties chenney has with halliburton!! of course hes not gonna say global warming is our fault. his compagny depends on it...and cashing in everyday
I duno maybe its just me. but that right there tells me somehting is up... Its no longer up to people to decide.. just like its now proven that sun can cause ski cancer... its a fact...

Are you serious? Palin didn't avoid questions and responses? Lets take the instance where she completely ignored a rebuttal from Biden and said "I'd like to go back to taxes". Hmm, great, fine, if the question was originally about taxes which it was not. Over and over again she dismissed arguments provided by Biden and instead using some of her "talking points". This way she didn't lose her cool and was able to use her training, not leading her down the path of a Katie Couric pt. 2 where she would spiral out of control with nonsense.

I really don't understand it, just because Palin beats her expectations she wins? How. Biden clearly could refute and argue against every statement Palin made, but not the other way around.

everything I've heard has been that Biden won, and Palin exceeded expectations.  So I don't know where you're getting that Palin won.

Yeah, I think when she said "I'd like to go back to..." etc. she wanted a chance to rebut what Biden said when he had the last words in a given question.

like I said. the first few questions for some reason went:

Biden
Palin
Biden
next question.

of course she's going to want to go back and respond to what he said last.

i think palin did alright, in my opinion she won but the major problem is that people have preconceived opinions about her which influence the way they viewed the outcome of that debate

I thought she got lucky when this happened a few times because Biden really railed McCain to the point where it felt like Palin would have had a really hard time defending his record and she got out of it by moving on to the next question.
