soooo here's the issue. my whole life i've been stuck getting boots from second hand stores because its the only ones my parents will buy me since my feet are still growing. well, winter's coming, and surprise i've grown out of my old boots and need new ones, which means more second hand store boots (woohoo...). since i have no way around getting this kind of boot, any1 got any words of advice for picking some out? should i get them heat molded so they're more of a new/good boot or should i just find one that fits and go with it? remember, second hand store... so not many outstanding spk's or kreations or w/e haha
thanks guys

Yea since there second hand get them heat molded for sure. That way they'll kinda conform to your foot. Also make sure they fit you good. Ask for a shell fit.

Sure, but they are more cost effective than buying retail boots which he will grow out of

that would be a great idea except for the fact that since he's buying second hand boots, his parents probably won't spend $100-$150 extra to get some custom beds made.
basically here's the best advice i can offer you:
-make sure the boot fits like a snug glove right off the bat. too tight will always be too tight since the boots have probably already packed out
-trim to fit insoles. they can cost $25-$40 and are definately worth the investment
-once you've found a boot that is as close as you think you'll get to a good fit, go see a bootfitter and see what they can do to make it fit better. this will probably cost $30 or so but there's not much you can do when your selection is only second hand product.
hopefully that helps

thanks a ton man. i'll definitely look into that once i get them. real quick what do you mean 'trim to fit insoles' ? is that like something i put in the boot or what?
thanks again

a trim to fit is basically a footbed without being fully custom. For example, 'Superfeet' makes a very affordable trim to fit that takes the place of the stoke insole that is usually flat unless a high performance boot is purchase(which usually already has a trim to fit in it)
how it works is it supports ur arch and allows ur foot to not collapse when u are putting pressure on ur metatarsole(sp?) or inside edge.
this allows for a more percise fit, increased comfort, and having a support system in ur boot without breakin the bank.
i reccomend it whenever i do any sort of performance boot fit. Basically anything not a package boot, and even then i suggest it if the customer complains of soar feet.

no we havnt recieved our order yet...they lookin sweet? we had the volcanoes as our base model last year and everyone ate them up.
if they are even better this year they will do wonders.
seriously though to none beleivers...go into a local shop and ask for em. ask for a bootfitter who can explain their benefits cause if u dont have the money to go fully custom, this is a VERY effective suppliment.

volcanoes are crap. we got ours at the end of last season and they kick ass! we used the blue superfeet as our base model but i think we've replaced them

keep in mind who my usual clientell is...you will have many more racers on ur end, i live just east of you.
and we had also the green superfeet in to supliment the volcanoes when they were running out.
we had a semi-moldable from comformable and a fully modible custom footbed from comformable as well.

alright alright so its like a replacement sole that molds to your feet it sounds like, in a sense...
now you're all talking about blue and green superfeet and comformable and volcanoes. what kinda would you recommend? i ski mainly park if that helps.

go into your ski shop and try to get a 'comformable' product. they make good stuff.
u dont need something to crazy but a boot fitter should have no problem given u a hand its not rocket science.
when u stop growing and invest in a proper fitting boot i highly reccomend getting a fully custom footbed.

find a ski swap. you can find some really cheap boots that are good quality.

boots arent something to cheap out on really
they are the most important piece of equipement for sure
although you can definitely find some good fitting boots second hand, just make sure they fit really well before buying them and talk to a boot fitter to seewhat types of boots you will fit in to make your selection easier.

i'll only add that if you are over 16 your foot has basically finished growing and you will want to find a proper fitting boot without any growth room.

not necessarily true. everyone stops and starts growing at different times. theres a general time period when all this occurs, but everyone grows differently. i stopped growing when i was like 14 (maybe one will occur during college, but doubtful), but i know kids that are getting grow spurts in college. it all depends on the individual.
pipe munky and lucifer have basically told you what you've needed to know. ive never personally worked with those trim to fit footbeds but ive heard great things about them. the only reason im not using them is i just got fully custom footbeds. as for the best product in that area, well its sorta personal opinion, but they've both used and seen feedback thru working and will tell you what most people find best.
ur parents are pretty smart at doin this. they're saving a ton of money, as my parents did the same. once u start growing, depending on your age (i gotta buy my own now), but maybe they will pitch in to buy some nice boots and custom footbeds which will last you a pretty long time since you went thru used and saved a ton of money. but when you do notice you're not growing anymore (nothings changed in a year or 2), look into this stuff.
