I am planning a trip to Japan this winter and I have pretty much fully planned out my trip except for which ski resort I am going to go to. (My thread on this: https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/358887/). The main areas of Japan I am looking at are Nagano (i.e., Hakuba 47, Happo-one, etc.) and Hokkaido (Niseko, Rusutsu, etc.).
I am going to traveling around the country for about one week, skiing for another one (main focus powder), and coming back to the USA on January 3, 2009.
I have been using http://snow-forecast.com as a source of "historical snowfall," even though it only goes back to the 2007-2008 season, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a site or some info on the historical snowfall for these two areas of Japan. I know there are sites that give snowfall averages per month, but I really need details (weeks/days).
Also, it seems like Nagano is warmer for most of December (highs about 32 degree Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius), but then around New Year's, they get dumped on. On the other hand, Hokkaido is colder and gets small, but more consistent amounts of snowfall. If you were in my position which would you chose, less consistent, but then a big dump, or more consistent, and smaller dumps?
Thanks in advance.
