Freebord?

I don't think the idea will work for skis. The freebord is just a skateboard with 2 of those 360 degree trolley wheels. If you put those on your feet they wouldn't give you any side to side friction and you couldn't edge.

^no a freebord is swivel wheels combined with skateboard wheels, so yes there is "edges"

Sounds like a sick idea don't get me wrong, but it seems kinda like your re-inventing rollerblading.

not really, theres no edges or sliding on rollerblades.

In junior high we would always see this old guy 'skiing' in a parking lot.
I dont know what he was riding but they were defintley skis made for pavement and he would go down small hills and had poles and everything

Everyone is so quick to hate, but after thinking about it for a whie, I don't think that's such a bad idea. Of course, it would take a lot of custom parts. Having never thought about this before, my initial idea would be to put one "straight-rolling wheel" on the front and back of each ski, then one "swivel wheel" underfoot. Just speculation, but having the swivel wheel right under your foot might make it easiest to initiate the turn.

I could never really get the hang of riding my freebord, the hardest part was always getting the swivel wheel to become the driving source in direction. Having a swivel wheel on the front and back of the ski would probably make it hard to apply enough pressure to initiate the "slide."

Ooh ooh! I just thought of something else. Since the way the freebord works on a skateboard is that the swivel wheel acts as a pivot between two straight wheels, you would definitely need to apply the same principle.

BUT, instead of having two wheels in the back of the ski along with a swivel wheel, and the same configuration in the front, you could do THIS: put the straight-rolling wheels on the outside of the ski, and the swivel wheel on the inside of the ski! So for the left ski, the straight wheels are on the front and back of the ski, on the left side, and the swivel wheel is in the middle, on the right side.

This way, when you turn, your uphill ski will be dragging the straight wheels sideways, so you can dig in an edge.

I just got myself so excited for this idea, that if you're not going to try and make one, then I am! And I'll be rich from it!

roller skis are soooooo much fun. i remember back in high school we had this huge steep hill right at the start of our work out and we would get going as fast as we could just before the hill starts just full out v2ing and just tuck the shit out of that hill. we would fly. so much fun.

nope the oens I saw looked  more like normal skies than those things. but yea I think the guy was more interested in xc sking but he would still ride down the slopes in the parking lot at a decent speed.
