Working at a Shop

my older bro works at a shop and he doesnt get paid much either, but he does get all products for what the stores pay fore them which is like 60 percent off usually. he got a 1700 dollar road bike for 700, hes gonna get some new skis this year for mad cheap to.

do u get discounts?

I wouldn't work at a shop just to get discounts, really easy to get bored very quickly..

I guess proform is a way to justify the low pay rates

I do like seeing new product come into the store though

working at a shop is a great job if its part time in college in my opinion. as long as ur shop is cool as shit then the job is cool as shit. we can drink beers on the job and no one cares, boss always giving out free shit and what not. just dont turn into a materialistic shop whore and buy every 2009, 2010, 2011 product out there cuz thats what a lot of shop managers i kno end up doing. I mean thats cool if you can afford it but I cant but it means ur like never satisfied. kind of fucked up.

I work at my local shop and I love it. Its not something you do just b/c of the good hookups, you do it b/c you loooove skiing, and b/c you love talking about skiing to anyone that walks through the door of your shop.

At least that is why I put up with the mediocore pay and hard work.

I work at a shop, and sure the pay isn't great, but skiing is what I love to do. I couldn't think of a better job than working with skiing equipment and talking to other people who are interesting in skiing all the time. Plus with proforms I can afford to buy new gear every season.

the only other job ive ever had that is almost as chill as working at a shop is in a kitchen.  I work in a boardshop in the summer so I get to cheaply pay for my longboarding/skimboarding addiction.  then I can pay the big bucks for skiing I love it.

with ski equipement stores have a 40 point ration, not a sixty, you must be talking about proforms.

i work a t a pretty legit shop and get hook ups like crazy.  the pay at this shop is much better than the others but i do work my ass off for it.  Boot fitting usually takes me minimum half an hour usually a whole hour just to make sure the person is in exactly what they need.  The pro forms, fun atmosphere, and the fact that i get to talk about skiing all day makes it totally worth my while.

but yeah, I'm always shopping for new stuff.  it's terrible.

i LOVE the shop i work at... i have met some of my best friends from workin with them. i have been at the same shop for almost 4 years now... i really is fun i love talking about skis and the gapers that come in make me laugh.

haha yea man i work at a ski shop and its sick but is blows at the same time.

because on the days that everyone is out shredding hard...u have to work...then you have to take out the trash...and u see its bluebird out....and u wanna cry cause u still have 8 hours left....

also u get sooo stoked from all the new shit commin in...then u have to go to product knowledge meetings...and listen to the reps tell me stuff i already know or try and tell me the bandit is a freestyle twinwip...i loved that one last year.

also we get a huge shipment in...then i soon realise that i have to receive it...unpack it...split it for our other store..then lug it alllllll up stairs....not so fun, but you gotta love the new guys, as i am startin to learn i can just make them do it. hayarrrrr


best part for me is the deals...even though now that i think of i i have bought nothing substantial there since i started 2 years ago.

worst part is not being able to ski as much as i am used to...but if u think about it, if you didnt work there you would just be workin at some other place where u didnt get to talk about skis all day....so in hinesight (sp?) its a decent job no matter how you look at.

plus talkin to the old guys that come in/work there about twin tips and freeride skis is cool to see their expression when you tell them 100 underfoot is considered a midfat now by industry standards. lol
