Hunting Yeti Review

Just watched hunting yeti a couple of times, here is my review.

Editing: Everyone knew this was going to be great. Just from the webisodes you could tell what the style would be like. In a break with ski movie tradition the footage isn't split up in to sections by session or by rider. The footage is jumbled together which makes for an interesting change. It does make it slightly difficult to tell who is doing what but that is not really a problem. The only exception to this is the night riding section at Skibowl, which has its own section. There is lots of lifestyle footage, which blends really well with the Skiing and makes a unique style of movie.

Music: Well the music choice is different. For me it works really well with the movie and helps continue the unique vibe of nimbus movies. The lack of rap was a refreshing change (nothing against rap) and the tracks fitted really well together. Definitely one of my favorite soundtracks in a ski movie.

Footage: The skiing is undoubtedly amazing. These are some of the most talented skiers on the planet and they showcase that with aplomb. Original, technical and straight up crazy tricks, great lines and unique styles shine throughout the movie. The editing format helped keep your jaw dropped, jumping from an insane pow line, to an unseen park trick and back in a few seconds. Some highlights for me were Pollard's 360 to pillow to 180 and the Switch backflip handplant. The night segment at Skibowl was also great.

Overlap with Webisodes: The real question was always going to be, do the webisodes devalue the movie? To some extent the answer to this is yes. Most of the bangers are in the webisodes so to some extent the movie is less shockingly good. I had seen a fair amount of the footage before.

I reckon this was a great movie. It was only 30 minutes long and contained a lot of footage from the webisodes, so I do think it should have been cheaper than the other pro movies. Undeniably a fantastic edit with great footage. The style and skiing is easier to relate to for the every day skier (west coast or europe) than most other movies. It made me feel like with time and effort I could produce something similar albeit less sick.

Bottom Line: Definitely worth watching for everyone. Buy it if its your style of riding, its a great edit and really fun to watch.

Great movie, made me want to ski, but I could have used a little less artistic filler. Sometimes you want to see the full shot and not a crazy fade into the next. Different strokes for different fokes. Over all it was an awesome flick.

yeah i just saw it at reasons tour in portland and it was pretty sick. there were defiantly a few shots from the webisodes but it didn't make it and less sick to watch.

Amazing. Another great movie by the Nimbus crew.

Alright i really liked the movie. I wasn't a big fan of the whole sound track but some of it fit well, but nowhere near as good as idea. The movie had an awesome vibe and i was really getting into it and was shocked when after not even thirty minutes it ended. It wasn't even longer than a webisode which i thought was pretty annoying. It could have been on such a grander scale and an amazing movie if they just didnt have the webisodes and combined it all into one final work, but thats just my opinion. I realy did like the 30 minutes though.

for all the hype that was made about hunting yeti i was quite disappointed.  The intro was way too long, the 3 min long random time lapses took alot away, music didnt fit the skiing at all, and the commentary took away soo much from it.  It deff wasnt worth it and i don't recommend it

^^^Music bad!?  I think we're all just used to the rap filled edits these days.  I think H-Mob does a great job on the music and Pollard really makes it flow so well.  Hmmm, Idea had no commentary at all and that was a kick-ass film.  I betcha the skiing was amazing though.

H-Mob did a hella good job with the music in Idea and i wish Pollard brought them back for hunting yeti.  The music didn't fit the editing and the skiing and we've all seen the footage with the webisodes and it made the shots less impressive


and review format is a good idea

just some input, me and 3 other friends watched it along with reasons, massive, jib jam, and turbo, and hunting yeti was by far the last movie i would buy, im all for that kinda movie, i loved idea, but i really didnt think it was that great

Yeah Pollard's movies are rather short.  Look though, the way it sounds the webisodes were free and you could see almost all the movie in them, which is cool, free ski movies are awesome!  Nimbus is Something that just started though so give them some time and we'll see a bunch of improvement.  I mean think about how much it costs (hours of 16mm film, cameras, hours of editing and then producing all the DVDs).  It takes a shit load of work for all that.  Just give Nimbus some time.

I think when it comes to hunting yeti the film you should review just the film and try to ignore anything you saw in the webisodes. Only seems fair to me... I didn't get to see the webisodes but really quite enjoyed the film itself. Even if the intro was weird as hell...
