Good Moguls Skis?

hey guys, so my Mom wants me to spend a year or two competing in moguls before i go park skiing. i guess some guy that she knew from a while ago thinks its the best way to go and can help me learn a lotta stuff about jumping and everything. anyway now that im signed up for the program i was wondering if you know some good mogul skis to buy.

Umm I dunno about a lot of mogul skis, but I do know Fischer used to make some and probably still do.  Most if not all newschool brands don't make mogul skis but there are kids on here who ski bumps who can probably help you.
Just tell your mom that you are just going to ski and for her to just get over it and not worry about it, but say it in a nice reasonable way.  It's really not that big of a deal, I bet her friend is a huge gaper anyway.

If you want to become a real mogul skier get some real mogul skis. Every company makes a mogul specific ski its not a twin tip and it shouldnt be mounted center either. Rossignol makes a scratch mogul, fischer makes one to cant remember the name and volkl has a wall mogul, they are legit skis. Kindof hard to find most shops dont carry mogul skis because it is a dying sport. You will have to order them online or through one of the companies, they are kinda hard to find.

You should be able to find a pair of the scrach moguls for cheap if you look around, those are pretty sweet bump skis.

And skiing moguls will flat out make you better at everything.

thanks! you guys are the best. I put +++10 karma on all your ratings. to the guy who said "mogul skill will make you better at everything" just wondering how come or what about it will make me better ?

if you can, find some old hart f-17. great mogul skis and i bet they would be pretty cheap

If you get into competing you will learn edging, balance, and air sense on a level that would be hard to achieve outside of mogul skiing.  Same goes for racing, but I spent 4 years doing bumps so I'm biased!

Most stores that I know will only do mogul skis by special order. Here's a little list that I came up with for you.

Rossignol Radical Mogul
Head Mojo Mogul
Hart F-17 (the ski is back for 2009)
Volkl Rebellion

Hopefully that helps in the search.

Go with the cracked edges since you are probably smaller/ lighter based on your age.

Some good information above^. Skiing and competing in moguls has the potential to make you an amazing skier. Also, I think personally, a lot of park skis are decent mogul skis. Anything around 180 length that is 84 or under in the waist, soft, with not to much sidecut should be good in bumps.

I really have never check out bump skis...but at the local mountain we've got a run full of them.  I'm a ski instructor there (free pass, bar discount, why not?), and was hanging out with an actually cool PSIA level 3 instructor (who didnt have a stick up his ass about skiing, some do, like my assistant boss).  
Just like others have said above, if you get the oppurtunity to be taught the right way to ski moguls, there's so many specific skills about edging, balance, and all that, that alone i would have never thought of that can be put into everything else we do whether its hitting the 60+ foot kicker, dropping 30 foot cliffs, or just skiing for ourselves all over the mountain.
Props for thinking about trying it out, I went from being a wreck trying to go through the moguls to looking like i knew what i was doing after just 40 minutes and from what would have been 4 or so lessons.  

I ride either 05 or 06 rossignol scratch Fs', the purple and blue ones that unfortunately dont have tits on them. They seemed to work well enough.  If i ever tuned them, i'm sure they'd work even better.

yea just chick the websites, many of the companies have a mogul offering, elan, head, k2?, vokl, rossi.

but in moguls they will def be teaching you alot more bout the actual turning aspect more than the jumps. Im not saying that it wont make u better in the long run, but u should do park in conjuction with the moguls, Many of the best park skier s were racers fisrt, it helps. The moguls and racing will teach you how to be comfortably on ur skis and actually ski, thats what helps the most. cause seriously if its ur first year ur gonna be doin twister spread instead of any flips, off axis, or any spins for that matter. If ur doin ussa do areials, it will teach u more about in air control that moguls will.

That's not necessarily true.  When I did moguls we would split our time pretty evenly between the jump hill and bumps.  And you can progress your tricks at your own pace, just keep in mind that it takes about 10x more skill to land cleanly into a rutted bump line.

Those of you who are claiming that park skis make good bumps boards have never skied a pair of real bumps skis (or ski them like a tourist)

You can drive your moms civic around a race track and have fun, but I you are really missing point.

Based on how bump board should ski, a park ski is a soft forgiving intermediate ski, to the equivelant of renting a pair of cheap parabolics for a pipe contest.

Yes, some can ski bumps decent on park boards, but the only people who can spent 10 years learning how to do it the right way.

FWIW, the PSIA does not teach competitive technique for mogul skiing... they teach you how to get to the bottom in one piece.

Don't know if you still care because this thread is pretty old but...

Dynastar made a pretty solid bump ski if you can scrape up a pair somewhere... www.aspeneast.com
also the Volkl Wall moguls are pretty good too

ya but its worth it. If money is an issue then buy the rebellion its an older model w/ different graphics but same design as the 08/09 ones. And once again dont buy the 09/10 ones there wicked expensive and some of the members of the US ski team (moguls) r using the 08/09 ones this year instead of the 09/10

If you're gonna park ski afterwards you might as well get some twins to start. I skied moguls and it's definitely a good way to become a great all around skier, you'll know how to turn properly ;p

When I start park skiing I bought scratches and had them traditionally mounted. the waist were 78mm with a 21 side cut i think?.. either way they skied moguls really well and then once you're done you can re-mount them to center or half n' half. But you should definitely ride traditional mounts with a more racy boot for the moguls, it'll be easier and way more fun to rip them fast.

moment has a new mogul ski, and i think they just became a sponsor of the US ski team

i have three friends who compete in moguls, they are pretty nuts, better skiers than me (better technique at least)

i have some Hart f-17s and i really like them. I also used to own some IDones and those are also a decent ski. Also Moment, Fat-y-pus, Elan, Dynastar, K2, Volkl, Head, and rossignol all make bump skis but l've never ridden them

the only bad thing about the new hart skis is they have metal in the topsheat so if you bend it it sucks and they're heavier than most mogul skis because of it
