Study Abroad in JAPAN

So i'm a college sophomore and i am looking to study abroad next year. For a while now i have really had my mind set on japan. Now, obviously i want to experience the culture as much as i can, but at the same time after watching the first seg of Reasons i realized i have to ski.

Has anyone done this before, or know which city would be best. Any information is very appreciated

except that ive heard that mostly all of the resorts are like 90% australian, and if i wanted that i would just study abroad in Australia

studyin abroad in australia is amazing im sure japan would be too but if u go to aus just forget about skiing and surf everyday instead

The good schools are not in the mountains. The best real city for skiing is Sapporo. It's in Hokkaido.

I am absolutely down for a culture shock. i have done a fair amount of traveling in my life and have loved it, even the shitty times. I have looked into Tohoku University which is in Sapporo and it looks like they have an english  section of the university.

also i speak no japanese, which could be a problem but i continually hear that most people speak english. am i being an ignorant westerner?

When I went I had one year of high school Japanese. It worked alright for the two week exchange, but you will pick it up kinda quickly when you get dropped into a new language. It wouldnt hurt to at least start learning a few words, the structure is probably going to take much more time to learn.

Yep.

I've been to many, many countries. I've been to most Asian countries and I must say Japan is the worst at speaking English. It won't hurt you though, you'll have a blast.

If you are looking to ski powder, your best bet is definitely the northern island Hokkaido. If you aren't too picky though, there are tons of ski resorts all over the main island too. I used to live in Japan and my grandpa was the ceo of Nippon Lift so i always got to ski for free and I remember nothing but good times even though I was pretty young. Anyways, no matter where you go in Japan, the culture is awesome! I went for a visit last summer and it was sooo sick. Try to go to a metropolis like Tokyo or Osaka and then into the country side too. The ways of living are so different but both so cool. Holy long post.
