first I'd like to say WTF, '09 movie reviews? shouldn't it be '08 movie reviews since that's when the movies were made. I have such is life, and its ok, transitions were too abrubt, but skiing was sick.
Hot Lunch - First movie I saw this year and the movie that's got me the most stoked to ski. Good, fun vibe. Stoked on the soundtrack. Oh....and it's free.
Reasons - Opened with an epic JP/Benchettler segment with some of the most ridiculous pow shots this year. For the most part a really good soundtrack. I'm getting kind of sick of the token Douglas segment in every PBP movie (mad respect for the guy regardless). Abma slays it.
The Massive - Tanner continues to prove that he is one of the best skiers around. I don't like the little in-between parts where guys are chilling in the house/lodge/whatever and they are clearly acting like they are chilling. Ha ha. Oh well. Yeah, if you like watching Tanner ski this is a movie for you.
Claim - I'm not gonna lie, I'm a fan of MSP. My first ski movie was Ski Movie and I've been hooked ever since. They know how to get a good shot, manage to through some good humor into it all and have a half-decent soundtrack. That being said, I can't stand how they always have some kind of bad grungey/punkish/rock song somewhere in the movie. What can you do. It was super good to see McConkey with a normal segment again with probably the best front-flip ever. Makes me laugh every time.
Turbo - I'm probably going to get all kinds of hate for this but I didn't particularly enjoy Turbo. In my opinion some of the best shots in the whole movie were in the credits and extras. I couldn't stand the soundtrack and that pretty much ruins the whole vibe for me. Definitely some sick shots, but not really my thing. Rainville and Wallish kill it, but I think Berman could have done a lot better with T-Wall. I don't know. Just wasn't all that stoked on it.
44 Days - A free Ostness movie. Can it get any better than that? Great skiing, great music, sick editing.
kind of ridiculous that a backcountry enthusiast reviewed slamina. dude sounded like an idiot the way he described it. i like this one...
"...then moves on to some, unfortunately, ordinary jibbing scenes. Nonetheless, this segment is very creative"
Reasons - Overall, I did like it. Skiing was undoubtedly very good, and the soundtrack was diverse which is nice. I thought the editing was good, and it was certainly nice to have a ski movie with some length to it as well. I appreciated the comments from the athletes as well.
Head For The Hills - The skiing was ridiculous. Absolutely no way I can knock the skiing. I however felt the MOVIE was nowhere near the same level as Wanderland was. HFTH did not get me NEARLY as stoked as Wanderland. I felt the HFTH soundtrack was very weak, and HFTH seemed to lack the vibe and feel the past few Meatheads projects have had.
Not all of them, but the majority of them ya. It's quite a lot for me to handle at the moment which is probably why the Slamina one isn't as well-written as I'd like it to be. I do plan on reviewing the written content at one point.
