Partly true, but I agree with someone above, that I like the music I hear in ski movies sooooooo (insert o's right here) much more than the mainstream stuff, which is people like Weezy and 50 cent claiming their crack and hoods and guns and shit and talking into microphones and its stupid. There's better stuff out there, and a good portion of it happens to be underground, lesser known music.
I hate the labels people put on music nowadays. If it's intelligently thought out music, sadly, it's not publicized by media corporations such as MTV and radio stations. Everything is specialized with bigger names like 50 cent, he doesn't even write his own lyrics or make his own beats. Most people who are more 'underground' or 'core' do all of this themselves and make music that isn't necessarily following some huge fad which will die out in a year or two.
Good music is played forever. Most other music is played for a couple years and then fades away from memory.
i dont know,,,,,,i made a post in non ski gabber about old school 411 http://https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/383012/ the song is really good!!!! that video put me on to del the funky homosapien and herio and all that,,,you think that song was chosen becuase of a ? of rights or cause it has a hot beat with deal flowing on point and it goes perfect with the part. heres another old school 411 featuring mob deep, at the time only hip hop heads new about mobb deep,
i just think that shred movie makers whether it be skate, snow, surf, whatever,,,,,, have an ill taste in music and are step ahead of evryone else, with a couple of exceptions ofcourse, (particularly in the ski world)
plenty of people just around the PNW, first off.
Pretty much everyone on Massline records (blue scholars, gabriel teodros, common market, etc. etc.), myself (haha claim).
Everywhere else: DL Incognito, Terminal Illness, Brother Ali, Jedi Mind Tricks...plenty of 'underground' artists self-produce. Many do get help from professionals, but the ones that self produce are often the ones with the most thought-provoking, most technical music in terms of rhythm and bass lines and all. their musicality is at a high level as opposed to someone such as Lil Wayne or Young Buck. Not hating on them, some of their music is really fun to listen to, but musically speaking it's pretty horrific.
i like underground stuff, but for all of you saying that you like underground stuff because its better, the reason that you listen to it is because its in the ski movies. if MSP and 4bi9 put young jeezy and 50 cent in their movies, im sure that you'd be listening to that instead.
Ah. I was not aware that Ant produced Brother Ali.
But I know for a fact that DL produces everything himself. DJ tech may give DL the samples, but DL does the entire mixing himself. He talks about it in his songs.
yeah, ummm first off, RIP Harold, and second, Mobb Deep came out in like 1992-93 ish, and I was all over the infamous album in 94... and im not a "hip hop head"
people in skiing dont like underground rap, lthey like backpack indie rap. There is nothing wrong with that. I am... but, shit, underground? In all the "what kinda underground rap... blah blah" threads out on ns, I have yet to see any underground. imo
dl's production is awful. he produces himself out of necessity, if he could afford something better he probably would. have you ever listened to how off the beats are in out the box? it hurts my fucking ears.
no people in skiing like underground rap because most of us are smart enough not to buy into the corporate pop image of America. Plus its just better music. sorry to offend all you fans but little Wayne sounds like an actual retard.
AA and Classified are self produced...but you do have a point, not many MC's are self produced...music is music tho, if you like the song then what can you do but listen
false for me aswell, ive been listening to underground hip hop for way longer than i have been into ski movies, the rhymes flow better, they arent all about sex drugs and "being the man", i think some of mainstream shit is ok but i have always and will always find underground far better.
ive been thinking about it and i honestly can not picture watching a ski movie with the likes of young jeezy, lil wayne, or some other goof ball coming out of the speakers...it just doesnt fit.
