What the fuck is with all these "official communities" for pro athletes?

I'm sorry, I just don't understand it. You need a website where people can fawn over your every move via message board? Actually, no, I understand it's some company behind it that thinks its a great idea, but who honestly joins these things? I can assure you that whoever joins Eddie Wall's official community is no better than the 13 year old girl that joins Ryan Sheckler's.
